neilwillis Posted July 24, 2004 Posted July 24, 2004 OK guys, help me! I have got all the bits, and installed them. Everything works, but when I try to install windows I get the blue screen routine saying uninstall/reinstall hard drive drivers. How do I get SATA supported by windows so I can get shot of the IDE drives? Quote
Persil Posted July 24, 2004 Posted July 24, 2004 disconnect all ide hard drives . Boot with winxp cd in cdrom and as it boots it will says "hit f6 if you need to load any raid/scsi drivers" do so and insert the floppy that came with the board...It will load the drivers for onboard sata/raid card then take you to format screen ...format yer new sata drive and install windows ...jobs a good un.. Once windows is on...power down...fit old ide drive in and move data over then eithier format it and leave it for storage or buy a cheap case or if you replaced the case build old machine backup to as it was and use as spare/kids/wife/charity (delete as aplicable). Persil Posted July 25, 2004 Posted July 25, 2004 Pleasure mate . What spec did you go for in the end? Persil Quote
neilwillis Posted July 25, 2004 Posted July 25, 2004 Just what you suggested, except that I installed 1Gb of memory, and two 160Gb Sata drives. It's all up n running now, thanks for the help. Quote
Stuart Posted July 25, 2004 Author Posted July 25, 2004 Yep, mine new one is built and running, too. Thanks for the spec, Persil - it's great. Can't get the operating sytem to recognise the sound on the Abit motherboard, though. Tried everything - now think it might be that I'm still on Win98SE that's the problem. Ideas, anyone? Quote
Persil Posted July 25, 2004 Posted July 25, 2004 Download this should sort yer sound . Although tbh time to move onto a more modern OS really .. 98 will take the edge off all that new gear you have If you have any more problems gimme a yell Persil Quote
Stuart Posted July 25, 2004 Author Posted July 25, 2004 Thanks Persil, but I already have this driver. When I try to load it, it asks for the Win98SE disk and then tells me that there is a shedload of files that it needs but can't find on the disk. I'm getting p**sed off with it now. Quote
Persil Posted July 25, 2004 Posted July 25, 2004 Ah good old 98 .. The files are there...just hidden away (stupid 98) Normally in the win32 dir . Tbh i would seriously upgrade to XP ..if you need any help drop me a pm Or could try here as the unified drivers may be different Persil Quote
