Mike-SEiW
Hi, my friend is building a Westfield with 2l Zetec engine and Type 9 gearbox. When putting the two together, the throwout bearing (lengthened by Westfield) pushes the feathers of the clutch plate in a few mm. As far as I know, there should be a few millimeters of play. I can't understand what's different about his setup than anyone else's. The only thing I can think of is that the clutch arm can be reversed so the bearing sits further "back" is that how it's supposed to be? Anything else I should check to figure out what's wrong? Thanks, Mike
Mike-SEiW
Anyone, anyone? Bueller?
westy666
mike im happy to stand corrected as im not quite 'on the road' yet but i didnt think a modified release bearing was needed for the zetec type 9. Quinton Hazel CT133 is from a 1.3 capri and does the job nicely if the last 2 years of posts on the topic is anything to go by. Mines all bolted together now so i cant measure it ... Ragtop
Mines only been round the block a few times so far but the CT133 gives superb change/adjustment etc. I thought the factory extension bearing was just for the Zetec/mt75 combo?
Mike-SEiW
Aha. Perhaps that's why then. So the standard Sierra release bearing is alright to use then?
Ragtop
No Mike not the Sierra one - the CT133 is from a 1.3 Capri
Mike-SEiW
Aha...we're getting closer. I can put on the web a picture tonight of the release bearing he has and you boys can then tell me if it's the wrong one. Thanks for the help!! Mike-SEiW
Here's a pic. On the left is the Westfield supplied throwout/release bearing and on the right is the standard Sierra item methinks: So is the left one correct or not?
westy666
neither look right to me mike The one on the left looks too long and the one on the right looks too short ... unfortuntely i didnt think taking a piccy of the CT133 would be of interest to anyone maybe one of our esteemed members had more foresight! Ragtop
Mike I agree with Westy666 neither of the pics posted look correct. The CT133 looks exactly like the one in the pic on the right but the body/bearing carrier is about 15-20 mm longer than the standard Sierra one Although I guess it depends ultimately upon which clutch unit you have used
Mike-SEiW
Thanks. The whole clutch "package" has come from Westfield and it's ordered as a Zetec/Type 9 package. I guess someone picked release bearing from the wrong box. I'll let Westfield sort it out. At least now we know it's not the right items. You've been a huge help!
