perksy Posted June 4, 2004 Posted June 4, 2004 Ultima, not much else comes close for the price.... Quote
scorcher Posted June 4, 2004 Author Posted June 4, 2004 Well chaps.......There was a few suggestions.I probably think that a V8 something or the other is going to be the way forward or a six that makes all the right noises. Ultima was an good one.How big are they?Would it fit in my garage?Just long and wide enough for a Carlton GSI! Quite like the Gardner Douglas with the new Corvette engine aswell .Any idea on turnkey prices? Boxter is out as that says you couldn't stretch to a 911 or equivilent and its a bit hairdressy despite the good reviews. Don't fancy a 911 just something about them. Elise (toyota engine or not) begs the same question as a MX5 .....Gay / girl or present from daddy?.Already upset kiddie with a MX5 at work who said I should of bought a reliable Mazda instead of a plastic Westy. TVR 350 is nice.I'm going to have a surf to see what else I can find on the TVR. My BMW ( for the critics out there ) is a 1990 E30 325 sport and the missus drives it to work.My car (other than the Westy ) is a £50 1.1 Fiesta!3 miles to work and back daily and ideal for chucking a dribbly great dog in! Sensible option would be a new Bmw 330 Diesel coupe but dont really want a daily driver. I'm surprised there were no comments on the american choices and the VXR 220.Probably will be in a minute!!! scorch Quote
steve_m Posted June 4, 2004 Posted June 4, 2004 Countach ? Some are in the £30k-£37k area, can't get more dramatic than a Countach, any model. Awesome looks, great sounding and actually an interesting car. (Any colour except white) If not then the Jalpa is easily within reach at £20k-£25k. V8 and still a Lambo. Probably fewer around than the Countach. Quote
markh1970 Posted June 4, 2004 Posted June 4, 2004 How about a RX8 or the Crossfire. Both good looking, and on the RX8 you can say w**kel without being arrested. Quote
adhawkins Posted June 4, 2004 Posted June 4, 2004 I'm not sure about the RX8...there's one or two around Newbury. I keep seeing them and thinking 'Oooh, that's nice', and then from a certain angle I think 'Naaaah'. Andy Quote
markh1970 Posted June 4, 2004 Posted June 4, 2004 I hear they do have a buzzy engine, not much torque though. Maybe not. The Crossfire has the bulges in the right places. Quote
Ian Gratton Posted June 5, 2004 Posted June 5, 2004 What about the Vauxhall Monaro GT (really a Holden HSV) Big V8 Aussie muscle - a hooligan and a cruiser at the same time. You should also drive a Nissan 350Z - pick one up for approx 20K and take it to get the stillen supercharger kit fitted (£5000) that will give you a 370bhp V6 to play with. The Z is a great car - drove one recently. There is also the Mazda RX8 - a nice drive - rotary engine is different but can lack serious torque. Quote
westy Posted June 5, 2004 Posted June 5, 2004 Boxter is out as that says you couldn't stretch to a 911 or equivilent and its a bit hairdressy despite the good reviews. Don't fancy a 911 just something about them. Drive a boxster you will be as suprised as I was...and my mates who took a ride... Quote

Yes, they're a bit common yes, there are too many owners who don't know how to use them.... But....the car is supremely capable and getting to be seriously good value (especially when you consider resale).... Reminds me of the old saying...."don't knock it, 'til you've tried it...." Quote
Ian Gratton Posted June 6, 2004 Posted June 6, 2004 350z hammered seven bags of poo out of the boxter s in a Best Motoring 5 lap battle. It also hammered E46 M3, Honda s2000 The R34 skyline still whooped its ass mind. I can't think of a better 'road' car than a Z with a supercharger for the money. Quote
zoso Posted June 6, 2004 Posted June 6, 2004 I hear they do have a buzzy engine, not much torque though.Maybe not. The Crossfire has the bulges in the right places. I can vouch for the RX8... Enough torque to get by. And F**king quick. ever so pretty, and 4 usable seats, if i can get my A*** in the back and be comfortable anyone can... Only problem with the RX8.... they've sold out i think... and they're a little thirsty. Quote
Fat Albert Posted June 6, 2004 Posted June 6, 2004 You might find one of these for £30k with a yank V8, you'd need a little more to get one with a Ferrari V12, but then there is nothing, but nothing with more WOW factor Ferrari P4 copy, chassis by Lee Noble, kits sold by Neil Foreman, read more here Quote
Ian Gratton Posted June 6, 2004 Posted June 6, 2004 Jesus H - I would swap my golf and commute from Derby to MK in that (if you pays for the fuel and tyres). Lovely bit of kit. Quote
