Al Yupright Posted June 4, 2004 Posted June 4, 2004 If its specifically the wastegate sound that you want, why not get one of these: Sunami Turbo Quote
CrashBangWallop Posted June 4, 2004 Author Posted June 4, 2004 But why the fascination with turbos There's just something about them I love. It's that kick I like. I've never grinned so much After plenty of, "Funking hell"'s and other colourful expletives. As for handling... I've not heard of any complaints from current owners of various seven-esques. I could just be p*ssing into the wind at the moment but, it's got me thinking. I know there are other engines that would beat it bhp-wise. It's not the huge power hike I necessarily need. I'd be happy with 150 bhp. Surely, spending similar amounts of cash would be better getting an engine built to do 150 bhp than squeezing every last cc out of my 1.6. I get the distinct feeling, from feedback I've had off non-turbo owners, that they're not popular, though. Why? Is it the same reason there's very few nitrous cars, too? Thoughts? Neil *Al Have you listened to the wav file Sunamiturbo supply? Ermmm! I wonder if you could sample your own? Have a big sneeze or f@rt at every throttle lift. Heh heh Quote
Persil Posted June 5, 2004 Posted June 5, 2004 Imho i dont see a problem with dropping your cvh out and getting a RST in there.... There not silly powerfull like cossies and give you that turbo fun. Im sure if you looked about you could pick up a cheap engine and throw £xxx at it to make it releiable and just drop it in. You can up the boost for next to nothing and it only really starts getting expensive when you start looking for big power. I think the issue for alot of people is the sudden rush of power mid corner etc and its maybe why people are maybe not so keen. Tbh if i could squeeze a scooby engine in there (and i had a bulging wallet) i would be first in the Q The sound of the flat 4 and the chirp of the turbo Wheeeeeeeeeeeee . Persil Quote
Monkeylegend Posted June 5, 2004 Posted June 5, 2004 It's not the "mega horsepower" I'm looking for like a 300bhp cossie. Although, I expect an increase from my mediocre 100 bhp at the moment (150bhp, maybe). Hi Neil I had the same as you 1600 CVH on twin 40's producing 103 bhp. Took mine to Keith Munro (Race Techniques) near Stansted Airport and drove it away three weeks later with modified cylinder head, camshaft etc, producing 135 bhp all for £900. Not quite the 150 you are looking for but it has transformed the car. It now flies in any gear from 3000 rpm and has been totally reliable . If you haven't got lots of money too spend I think this would be a good alternative. If you want to have a drive in mine you are more than welcome. I am based 6 miles south of Bury St Edmunds only 30 mins from Cambridge. Quote
