DMS
The title says it all really. I spend a fair bit of time at airports and so on and was wondering how good/fast internet access is through a mobile with GPRS. Currently, I'm trying to use our VPN through a standard mobile at a wondrous 9.6Kbps which gets a little frustrating!

Jon Murray
It goes pretty well, I use my Ipaq to view the web whilst on the move and hook it to the internet via my GPRS enabled phone - I would say it's about as fast as a 56K connection is on a landline. It's massively faster than my old phone was. Jon

Fat Albert
I have a Sony/Erickson P800 IMHO, the first proper combination phone/pda/camera. Battery life is all day, handwriting recognition works, memory stick allows secure data transfer and the screen is readable in any light. Have found it invaluable since March cos it offers HTML 4 (with Opera) browsing, full Email with attachment viewers and wonder of wonders (courtesy of some outstanding anorak) a VNC client allowing me to access and manage our internet/office servers from anywhere with GPRS. Performance is as stated about equivalent to a dial up modem. Whilst waiting at Heathrow for my Capetown flight was able to browse to itvf1 and follow the Brazilian GP. On getting off at Capetown could immediately browse to get the results, while catching up on Email, etc. etc. Oh!, and its not a bad phone either As for Lady Penelope, Pah! she's nothing compared to Marina , how I envied Troy Tempest
JimNoble
Whilst the data rate is broadly similar to a landline, the latency is very high (I've seen >2000ms pings!. I found it very slow for collecting large volumes of email compared to a landline... Jim
JimNoble
It's also extremely expensive compared to the cost of a dial-up call. Jim

neilwillis
The biggest unanswered question I have - Was Alan gay? He could have had TinTin any time he chose, but you just never saw them at it - What do you think? After being cooped up in Thunderbird 5 for months on end listening to the radio (probably caroline in those days) you'd think he'd......... Not that I have prejudices of that, or any other nature

Presumably you never saw the low cost American B movie "Big Alan and his rocket send Tin Tin into outer space" which was riding high in the German porn charts in the mid 80s....
