DickieB Posted May 28, 2004 Share Posted May 28, 2004 Thermostat allows the oil to not go near the cooler until the engine warms up enough. The thermostat then kicks in and the oil flows through the cooler to cool down. Just like the thermostat near your radiator does with the coolant.
