different engine mounts, different ancillaries, different plumbing.

[flame suit on]

What is made differently? I would like to know how to make these things lighter, especially the engine mounts?

Plumbing - welded aluminium tubing is about the lightest I can figure out?

Ancillaries - small generator, tb's, what else can be made lighter?

It would be nice if you could share so we all can learn, instead of keeping it to yourself, isn't this in the spirit of the forum and the WSCC? If you've figured something good out, I believe many others really would like to know so we all can improve and make our cars better.

Thanks in advance!

When *can* you make it ??

Looks like this isn't gonna get resolved unless you guys camp outside Mr Conibear's house with the scales, waiting patiently until its "convenient" for you to weigh it.  :D

Personally I'm amazed, if the weight of my car was being called into question this much and I was so confident of what I thought it weighed, I'd be quite happy to get it on some known scales to settle it once and for all, and get you guys off my back! ;):D

thats a bit harsh blatman, let me start criticising any one of your westies, i'm sure if i did you would defend them. i have posted my weight of my car cos it was actual and i thought it was worth posting, yes i am proud of it the same as you with your cossie powered car as is/was glen.

Harsh? Hardly. I was merely trying to prevent another heated debate about the accuracy of the equipment used. I have some experience on the fellas at Northampton Motorsport. I have attended their faciltiy a couple of times, both times with my brother, who is a Le Mans team No1 race engineer. His comments on the quality of their service, their equipment, and general expertise means that if I have any problems with my cars that require a rolling road, set up, or other essential work, I'll make the 200 mile round trip without hesitation. It has NOTHING to do with whether they sponsor the club or not (in fact, my visits were before they decided to sponsor the Speed Series, so your argument is invalid anyway). Frankly I'm offended by the suggestion that my view is based on wether they cough up to the club or not. What a load of b*****k*.

I have never questioned your pride, or criticised the car. I am sceptical of the weight claims. Your original claim in the thread before this one (the one about a Zetec, IIRC), you claimed 500Kg's. You're now guessing at 520Kg's for your car. I'm assuming you've only had it weighed once, if at all, and you either can't remember that weight, or you're backtracking. In any case, as has been pointed out, plenty of us remain sceptical, and FACTS from you to enable us to make a better informed judgement, are sadly lacking.

Allow me to reimnd you of what you said.

Page 2 of this thread, April 27th 2004, you said

My Duratec Westy weighs 500kg's

Last night you said:

IMHO, as said previously I think my car could weigh 520kg, can you accept that

So which is it? 500, or 520? The evidence from your own postings suggests that you don't actually know.

You thought Glens car weighed 540kg but now theres ammo your surprised it weighs more than 560kg, confusing.

Only confusing because I was quite prepared to give your estimations the benefit of the doubt after Gelns SVA seemed to support the extreme light weight of the "standard" Duratec install, and said so at the beginning of this thread. Now that Glen has been kind enough to provide us with FACTS, I am surprised, and a little disappointed for him. However, the FACTS would seem to indicate to me that your guesstimate for your car of 500K'gs is a bit off. And it would seem that even you don't know, or you have the memory of a goldfish.....

Criticise my cars all you want. What you won't get are stupid claims, or obviously crass statements about them. I can take criticism in the spirit it's meant, as many folk on here will attest to.

I'll be up mid to late afternoon, so don't put 'em away too early....

Oh, and make sure they're properly calibrated. We don't want any arguments.... :D:D:D
