Bulk head pannel

Mat Jackson

Recommended Posts

Just fitting the pannels at th emoment to the chasis and noticed that the drivers side frount bulk head has holes drilled for the brake master cylinder etc, but none for the steering rack to run through.

I am presumig that this needs to be cut later in the build?  If so isn`t it just easier to do it at the start?

Any comments?

Yep, you need to cut the hole for the steering column yourself. It struck me as a bit daft considering the other holes are already in all the other panels....still, there you go.

Absolutely; I held the panel on with masking tape and clamps, drilled the rivet holes - poping rivets in - without fixing, to keep everything lined up, and marked out the column location. - Its sooo much easier to take the panel oof to cut.  :)

But why don't WF cut it? Especially when my rear bulkhead has huge holes lasercut for inertia real seatbelts that I have no mounts for  :(   :bangshead:  :bangshead:

Also,

This front bulkhead pannel has two large holes drilled in the bottom.  One is for the brake master cylinder, and I presume the other is in case a hydraulic clutch is being fitted.  If using a normal clutch do I have to make up a blanking plate to cover this hole?

I made one up from 3mm thick ally plate, drilled holes for the studs to pass through, and bolted it on with a smear of gasket sealant to keep the water out - I figured I may go to a hydraulic clutch one day, so kept it removeable rather than just riveting sheet ally over the hole.
