VHS and Hi8 Tapes advice

Recommended Posts

I have quite a few VHS tapes and Hi8 tapes that I would like to save digitally

What do you think is best? Get them copied to either USB memory sticks etc

Digitise them, then store them in more than one place e.g. on a PC and also on a USB stick. If they're valuable to you, back them up somewhere else too.  My digitised lifetime collection of music is stored in 4 different places just in case......

@Captain Colonial don't assume everyone has the same dark past as you!

@Terry Everall consider cloud storage too. USB drives (solid state or spinney disk flavour) can fail. apple charge £0.99 for 50GB of storage. You can store video for free with youtube and set to private so only you can view.

I've used https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?item=284646387481&rt=nc&_trksid=p4429486.m3561.l161211&_ssn=uktapetodvd

Amanda did a fantastic job, great communication. I couldn't fault her service and highly recommend her.

If it’s really important, have at least two entirely different backup solutions. As far as cloud based stuff, check any service level guarantees. I’d be very surprised if many, if any, give any sort of guarantee about reliability.

I might get them copied to USB sticks and also on a CD
