Terry Everall Posted February 17 Posted February 17 I have quite a few VHS tapes and Hi8 tapes that I would like to save digitally What do you think is best? Get them copied to either USB memory sticks etc Quote
Stuart Posted February 17 Posted February 17 Digitise them, then store them in more than one place e.g. on a PC and also on a USB stick. If they're valuable to you, back them up somewhere else too. My digitised lifetime collection of music is stored in 4 different places just in case...... Quote

USB drives (solid state or spinney disk flavour) can fail. apple charge £0.99 for 50GB of storage. You can store video for free with youtube and set to private so only you can view. Quote
Mark (smokey mow) Posted February 17 Posted February 17 I’ve been doing this recently and have transferred them initially to an SD card and then onto DVD-R so I can replay them. I used a mini DVR similar to this for the transfer. https://www.modernastronomy.com/shop/accessories/astro-video-accessories/revolution-mini-dvr/ Quote

I couldn't fault her service and highly recommend her. Quote
corsechris Posted February 17 Posted February 17 If it’s really important, have at least two entirely different backup solutions. As far as cloud based stuff, check any service level guarantees. I’d be very surprised if many, if any, give any sort of guarantee about reliability. Quote
