As someone thinking of buying a Westfield could someone give me some idea of insurance costs please.

I'm 76, widowed and live in Nottingham. I currently have 6 cars, which will stay the same should I sell one and buy a Westfield, including a Porsche 911 and Boxster. I currently do about 5000 miles per year and will want a small engined/low powered car for road use only i.e. no trackdays. Is there a difference in cost between Q registered and ordinary registerated cars?

If you can give me an approximate  cost of say £100 or £600 it would help me greatly

Thanks

Tony

You're best ringing Howden (Thatcham branch) and ask. Everyone's circumstances are different and hence won't give you a true figure etc.

Thanks but I only want an idea, no convictions etc, can members tell me what they pay. Is it £100 or £2000?

Have a look to see if a collection type policy would work for you. Is much cheaper than insuring vehicles individually. When I bought my Westfield three years ago the additional cost was about £50 a year.

@Des911 My 1.8 Zetec Westfield cost me £112 last renewal with Howden; limited 3,000 miles.  Be sure you contact the Thatcham office as the kit car specialists are based there; you can get a very different price from their other offices

Shop around. I've found costs vary a lot but I tend to go with a company who are good to deal with. I was very surprised at the attitude of one company who seemed far too interested in how much experience I had in fast cars. The assumption on their part was that I would be driving round like a complete idiot despite being in my 50's.

My insurance cost £190 and is limited to 3000 miles. That probably isn't cheap but they were the best company to deal with.  It's a shame it wasn't Howdens.

Thanks for your answer and £190 isn't too bad considering you say it wasn't too cheap ☺️

Shopping around is a pain, you have to go through the same answers to the same questions all the time which gets me down. This is why I asked the question here.

We pay £200 and umpty something with Howden's, Thatcham. That's for my husband (70 yo) and myself with unlimited mileage.

It might be worth getting an agreed value for the car too, which we have.

It must be the Thatcham branch of Howden's, don't forget to mention that you are a club member for the discount and please let us know how you get on so other's can benefit from your experience.

Thank you Julie, prices quoted so far have been what I would call reasonable.
