Looking at the new 2025 ncr aka blue book,  I see my iva and mot approved road going avon zv7 tyres have an asterisk along with a few other brands. It says they may no longer be approved check official bulletin.    Anybody know how to find said bulletin?  My toyo r888r tyres look OK on the list , I use the Avon for wet weather sprints  and driving on the road.  Suggest people check the lists to see if there tyres are still valid.  They worry about waste plastic tyre wraps then make you bin off totally road legal tyres I smell green washing.

A friend has written to MSUK seeking clarification as to what this means in practice. It seems ridiculous that current 1b tyres such as the ZZR and ZZS (with appropriate coding)even though they are no longer made could be potentially made obsolete. I spoke with MSUK 18 months ago and was told at that time it would probably be 4 years before they came off the list.

Even worse you kind of find out these things by accident.

I will share when I hear anything though am also thing about writing to MSUK

Thanks for your feedback,  I will email msuk as well to get some clarification,   don't want to arrive to a wet track and not be able to use my normal road legal tyres.

I put a query in about it this morning. My gut feel would be that whilst they have been "asterix" for removal, the bigger problem is that Avon is no more and currently no-one is exactly certain which tyres Nova will be making, other than the slicks.

I have received this reply from MSUK Technical

Dear Steve

The Asterisk next to a listed tyre is an indication that the tyre may be removed for the following year. It does not mean that the tyre is ineligible this year, and it won’t be removed during the year.

The tyre list are compiled by the individual manufacturers, who advise Motorsport UK which tyre products they support for inclusion on the lists.

NOVA Motorsport who represents the AVON products on the tyre lists, requested the listing to be annotated with the Asterisk in 2025 for the following reasons, which they confirmed by email to me today;

The asterisks on the ZZS and ZZR were added because, due to regulatory changes, we will be unable to produce these tyres in their current specifications moving forward. However, we do have significant levels of residual stock and are closely monitoring inventory levels both within the marketplace and through our UK dealer network. We currently do not anticipate removing these products from list 1B until at least 2027 for obvious reasons.

The Asterisk is there to give advance notice that the tyre may be removed, so that competitors can make informed purchasing decision, we will always give at least one year of notification, but the tyre will not be deleted from the list until the manufacturers requests deletion, once they consider the product to have been out of production for long enough that existing tyres have been used up.

I hope this clarifies.

Best Regards
