Sprinting

Considering doing Llandow SS, but reading application which states they hope for at least two time runs, but if not possible then at least one run to count.

The cost for this event is £68.00 plus expenses, plus five hours travelling there and back, surely it can't be worth it or is it ???  ???  ???

It is a great track but only you can decide if its worth it.

I realy love the place but I will only be doing the one later in the year and then heading over to Llys-y-fran to help reduce the traveling costs as you get to spread it over two events without to many more miles.

In fairness I have only ever heard of one event that has only had one timed run, which was due to the weather and the run off boys.  That was not at Landow though.

:D:D

Llandow is a good track - again I hope to be doing the one in July but the May event always seems to be very well run and attended  ;)  ;)  ;)

The one timed run note is put in to "cover" just in case of any mishaps - it does appear in various regs from time to time  ;)

In all the years of the SS - a one timed run has only happened once and we don't use that particular organised event anymore and try our best to avoid the cause of the slow running wherever possible      :D  :D  ;)

Llandow has a decent camp site right next door - good venue for a bank holiday weekend away  ;)  :D

I have'nt done a SS event so please bear with me on this.

How many timed runs does the SS average then ???

I've entered the Seloc sprint @ Lydden which is a BMW organised event. They are stating at least 6 timed runs and it costs £45.00 :D   I know it all depends on numbers, but it does look like this event has a limit to entree's ???

Lydden is a very short track, and they can get away with 3 cars on the track at anyone time - hence the potential for large numbers of runs.  It is often poorly attended as well since it is so far south (for most people).

Llandow is brilliant, and I don't recall ever having had less than 3 timed runs.  Again they can put 2 cars on the track at the same time.  And each run is 2 laps.

Generally Westfield owners I'd of thought don't attend Lydden in numbers, as they are mainly based north of Watford, but there are many track cars dawn sauf: such as Caterham, Lotus, Escorts/Sierra's, Sylva and Fisher. From my research so far Lydden looks a very well supported sprint circuit   :D

Yes Lydden is well supported generally, but not by WSCC Speed Series drivers - unfortunately.  It is one of my favourites, and I always went.  of course, last year I raced there (twice) which was even more fun.  :D

If you looked at the number of minutes you get for the money you would never go sprinting or hillclimbing.

And I guess many of the Speed Series entrants would probably agree. However when you do sprint and hill climb the fun isn't measured by the number of minutes on the track. It is the pit atmosphere, times spent watching others, general banter and problem solving.

And for me its the fact that a 4 run 60 sec sprint is as enjoyable and draining and involving as a 4 * 20 minute track session.

That may not answer you question and sprinting may not be your 'thing' so I would suggest you try it then decide if its value for money.

If you go up to Llandow the day before the chances are they'll be running a track day. I've turned up at around lunchtime the day before the sprint, paid the guy in the office £30 and had the afternoon on the track.

Don't delay sending off your entry for the sprint (and all the others in the calendar for that matter) because if you leave it too late you won't get in.
