Insurance

I'm looking at buying a Westfield (1.8 or 2.0l zetec wide body, 3 to 4 years old) and my current insurer don't insure 'kit cars'.

So i need to find someone who does, if anyone knows a good company please let me know.

Also roughly how much are they to insure, details as follows:

30 years old,

garaged in good (i hope) postcode area,

estimate of 4500 miles a year.

Any advice greatly recieved,

I've just renewed with MSM, cost about £320 for 7500 miles. I'm 28, no claims or convictions, and the car is garaged. The car is a 1998 SpeedSport with a 2 ltr Zetec.

I'm with MSM too. 3 points, no claims, 6 yrs NCD on other car, 2.0L VX, 5000 miles. £290. sureterm (i think) were £260 but since msm had a good rep and they are rather nice people too I didn't mind spending the extra £30.

Usual suspects are MSM, Adrian Flux, HHH and Footman James

Im 30, garaged 1760xflow on 3500 miles with no no-claims came out at 210 fully comp in December last year.  Currently slotting a zetec in so it'll prob go up 50 or so quid i guess.

I'm with MSM too I'm 22, no claims or convictions, and I'm paying £240 TPFT with a 3,000 mile limit for my '96 SEi 1600 xflow (garaged).  That includes European breakdown cover too  

I was very impressed with MSM's service - Lynn and Dave were super friendly and know their stuff!  They even gave me a 5 year no claims bonus based on the number of years I've been a named driver (not policyholder) on a policy  - I haven't been offered that with any other insurer I've contacted (for the Westie nor for my everyday car).

40+ clean license and no convictions and run Narrow bodied 1989 car with tuned 2.0l XE and pay £164 for fully comp to Footman James for 3000 miles pa.

Forgot to say inc breakdown cover inc europe and a windscreen even though I have not got one?

I am with Footman James. The preium I have just payed is £275.10 for,  Fully Comp insurance,  I am 36 years old, Car is a 2 litre SEi, garaged and limited to 3500 miles per year.

thanks for your very speedy replies, it looks as though i'll be giving MSM, Adrian Flux et all a call in the coming weeks.

And hopefully with the refund i'll get off my current insurance, i'll get a years insurace on a westie.

Worth bearing in mind that FJ sponsor the WSCC, and offer a discount to members, and the club gets cash back if enough of us insure through them.

Got to be the first choice IMHO

I am 33, 3 points, girlfriend on 6 points!, on a 2 year old Megabusa. Live around Cambridge.

Insurance with Hill House Hammond in Peterborough (special part of the HHH group for kit cars), £250 fully comp, 2000 miles limit.

Footman James for my 2.0 Pinto SEiW. registered in 98

3000 miles, garaged, fully comp. age 32 £180 IIRC.

Also IIRC policy is flat rate based on age/engine .. ie no claims does come into it.

sounds like a good deal, but do FJ still go mental at the thought of a BEC?  they did when I was first insuring my car...  another vote for MSM here, possibly not the cheapest, but probably the best

sureterm are cheap (just had my renewal at £154 for 39yrs, 4500 miles, SE xflow) however I will be having words with them about their "no mot = not insured" clause as I reckon my car could be off the road come MOT time.

Footman James are a bit odd. Quoted me £500+ (IIRC) despite them insuring me on my lotus (faster, more expensive car) for £138! I protested that they must have got it wrong and they refused to investigate futher. Shame as they were pretty efficient when I claimed for my lotus windscreen.
