Yep, they work really well. Pop the mesh in, clamp and voilà!

Looking at mine then, it seems they are just flush with the inner face of the bonnet not the outer surface. Are there are any advantages/disadvantages or is it purely a cosmetic choice kind of thing?

Yeah exactly what I was thinking!  Although I do actually quite like them recessed. I haven't seen them flush yet though. One thing it has made me think is that my mesh is small, maybe fitting ones with larger mesh would aid hot air escaping? Not that I have any temperature issues but it would maybe let the engine bay breathe a bit easier.

If anyone is able to post a close up like this of their flush mesh please feel free to show me and give me yet another job to do 😂

Thanks. I have been considering wrapping my V8 bonnet, so I suppose it would make sense to do this at the same time. What sort of mesh are people using and where are you buying it? I know B&Q do a selection but not sure how suitable that would be.

I found some actual hexagonal black mesh (not what a lot of eBay sellers call hexagonal which is 6 sided but not hex shaped)

It's from China but I've never had any problems with anything I've ordered from there, quite the opposite in fact.

Pics and link below.

That is spot on!

Yeah even the size of the holes is spot on.

And according to the Mesh Company this size hex mesh has 80.2% open space, great for letting air out from inside the bonnet!
