mikew123 Posted April 5 Share Posted April 5 Hi We are planning a weeks holiday in the Peak District from 08/06/2024 to 15/06/2024. We are unsure where to locate ourselves and wondered if anyone from the area could suggest the best area as a base. Also, could anyone suggest places to visit. Having never been to the Peak District we would like to prepare an itinary first rather than plan trips out ad-hoc. Thanks. Mike and Jane. Julie Hall - WSCC AO Representative Posted April 6 Share Posted April 6 Bakewell is well served with eateries and is in a good position for a base. Visiting Bakewell is a must if you don't get to stay there. Matlock Bath is a must and Heights of Abraham is well worth the money. Castleton, Lady bower Reservoir, Chatsworth House/Estate, Tissington, Carsington, Tideswell and of course the car museum, The Great British Car Journey. Buxton is ok but it always rains there and it's a bit run down in comparison, Ashbourne is ok but is just a collection of shops. Drive Winnats Pass, Castleton, the Cat and Fiddle Road, Buxton and drive to Crowdecote on your way to Tagg Lane Dairy for ice cream. Ian, yes we will be in the Westy. We generally just have days out which is not really using the car enough.
