But I am intending to do a couple track nights later this year If you're not driving in the wet and want to do road and track then IMHO it's R888Rs all day long. Rainsport 5s will be a lot cheaper of course but given the relatively low mileage kits tend do I'd spend the extra and get a semi slick road tyre like an R888R or similar. Nankang do a decent tyre now too.
Stuart
ATS sometimes have a great deal on that size PS3s. I got 4 for £250 fitted about 18 months ago. In fact I just looked and it's currently 4 for £320 and you get a £50 M&S voucher as well. So about the same as the Rainsports when fitted I guess

It’s all I have run so far, I have to be canny when it’s wet or rears are cold with the throttle inputs. It looked damp when that guy spun anyway. i have a 2.0 zetec on throttle bodies. Should I consider changing to 888r when I upgrade the cylinder head to hit 200bhp They're not terrible for the road, but they're awful on track particularly under braking. The change in traction, cornering grip and braking with the R888r's on was drastic. They aren't great in the wet though, and dangerous in standing water! After my track day tomorrow I will need to change my MPS.. thinking of trying something different..may try the kumho hs52 that is used in the mx5 racing.. been quoted £55 fitted locally..they seem to go ok on the mx5s

I have HS51 and HS52 on my road Westfield . Bought those as read somewhere that are designed for lightweight cars, was cheap, had really good results on tyrerewiew. I can see this year test looks even better : https://www.tyrereviews.com/Article/2024-Summer-Tyre-Market-Overview.htm (look at brake results on dry and wet) Feels in fact "sticky" from start even on cold days so the compound is on soft side, but on road did not had chance try to the limits . Did approx 4k km on them really like it . So far was lucky not to drive in wet , but looking at thread with lot deep groowes, I am quite sure will be ok.
Ansoeb
Thanks for all the advice, I will definitely consider these options when it becomes time to go shopping. I have no issue with the TR1s on the road but have yet to see how they feel an a track day.

I am tempted to try them.. the pilots sport have been fantastic wet or dry..I can kill them when it's a really warm track and there are some hairpins.. but had a great day on them today with the car running from 9am to 5pm..
