Stuart Posted December 23, 2023 Posted December 23, 2023 My youngest lad has managed to knock the door mirror off his MX5 Nc (don't ask). Can anyone recommend a glue to stick it back on please ? Or is that a daft thing to try? Quote
Greenstreak-Andy D Posted December 23, 2023 Posted December 23, 2023 @Stuart, I would be looking for a replacement casting, possibly a second hand one. Glue is not going to last here! 1 Quote
corsechris Posted December 24, 2023 Posted December 24, 2023 If it wasn’t for the location of the bolts that fix it to the door, I’d suggest filling the whole thing with glass reinforced filler, making sure to get some down inside the central hole so that when it cures, the assembly is locked together by the form of the cured ‘lump’ rather than relying on adhesion….but getting it off in future could prove problematic. 1 Quote
dvd8n Posted December 24, 2023 Posted December 24, 2023 My wife's went in exactly this spot. I glued it (with araldite iirc) but it didn't last (about a year I think). She had to bite the bullet and get a new one eventually. In my opinion by all means glue it to buy yourself some time but plan to do it properly at some point. David 1 Quote
Kit Car Electronics and Essex AO Posted December 24, 2023 Posted December 24, 2023 I have a spare electric NC nearside mirror he could have for £35 posted? It's copper red with peeled lacquer but would be perfect after a respray 1 Quote

Stuart Posted December 24, 2023 Author Posted December 24, 2023 @Kit Car Electronics he's interested if he can find someone to spray it for him and I guess he won't find that out until after the Xmas break. So I'll get back to you when I can 1 Quote
BigSkyBrad Posted December 26, 2023 Posted December 26, 2023 ...or paint them both with a satin black rattle can. 1 Quote
Stuart Posted January 10, 2024 Author Posted January 10, 2024 @Kit Car Electronics sorry for the delay but he hasn't managed to find anywhere to paint it for him yet (one place quoted £400!) and now work & time pressures look like forcing him into buying a new one. He lives 2hrs from me and doesn't have a garage either. I'll get back to you if he does want it but I now think it's unlikely... 1 Quote
