I'm with you on your centiment.   It annoys me no end.   As such I now tax the camper and westfield monthly and cancel the tax as soon as it looks like i'm not going to use it, and hang on to the latest opertunity in spring to tax them again.     Most vehicles like this only do a few 1000 miles per year.  Where as my daily does loads of miles, the Emissions won't be genuine, and it costs about a 3rd the amount in tax.      You'd think they was trying to extort money from us!...  I can't drive more than one car at once!..   The only fair way would be to simply add the cost to fuel.. But they've alrady done that already, just forgot to stop taking vehicle tax as well.    Or why not have limited milage tax, we do it with the insurance.

Yes, mine's £325 for a year for an '09 1600 Sigma.

My  litre turbocharged 2011 Audi is only £265 for some reason.

Ditto... And the worst bit I re-taxed it 6 months ago, and the car hasn't turned a wheel. Is it time to scrap this method of taxation?, I know what I would do if it were, what would you like instead of it - of course is answer is nothing... but that's never going to happen is it?.

AS long as the duty on fuel is scrapped as well, yes maybe the best way. But again , that's not going to happen.

I am going to go back to DD next time around, I know you pay more, but I will save in the long run as these days I am rarely well enough to drive, but for when I am I love taking the car out. The war on the motorist will continue. A good friend did let slip the other evening that the Gov had been proposing a full UK wide 20 mph limit ( in previous 30 mph zones) but due to public opinion in both Wales and the Wirral, those plans are likely to be scrapped.

Be careful what you wish for, and the law of unintended consequences.

Like along with your invoice for travelling x miles along the listed roads a note that your speed exceeded limits over certain sections and that a separate invoice is on it's way for those offences....

Yeah, that's the problem isn't it. Although thinking about it, the Gov currently are unable to provide adequate infrastructure to chrgare EV's, so quite how they would track every single car on every single road is a way off. Not sure if to mention this at risk of being banned, lol. But my half brother works for a company in Preston who supply, build and fit these Ulez and ANPR cameras, he admitted yesterday that he has had a hand in pretty much all of the North West's units - I may dis-own him, lol.

I have just asked him, in his opinion exactly how many camera systems need to be installed for a Pay per Mile to actually make the a viable way of tracking vehicles and how many are fitted now. Will let you know when he gets back to me.

They have deliberately called it VED ( Vehicle Excise Duty) a while ago, so that's it's got nothing to do with the Road and everything to do with taxing you more and more.  Whilst if seems more sensible to hope for a tax per mile as @Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman has said be careful what you wish for ;)

Personally I've always thought the best way is just to add whatever VED raises and add it to the Petrol & Diesel sold for Road use, has the advantage that it really will hit the highest using vehicles, by implication most polluting maybe. But also it will then reduce the amount of administrative cost associated with VED. But I do also think it's a good idea to say charge a nominal fee for Car registration, to allow cars to be used on the road, keeps track of who owns which cars, that is otherwise easily lost.

The problem with your idea Nick is that it will raise less in some areas. My mum when she was alive had a fiesta she did exactly three miles per week, once to the shops and back. And there are lots who do low mileage like she did.

They will keep ratcheting the costs up on older ICE cars and vans so that they can avoid charging electric car owners sooner than planned.

It is due to come in from 2025 onwards at £165 for cars up to £40k and £355 for those over.

Road pricing is where they are going and it works in France where there is a choice of fast motorways which you pay for or the old roads which are still fantastic here it will not

The hatred for all cars now has become beyond a joke. The latest is the campaign to stop rubber particulates as they are just as bad a diesel fumes, allegedly.

My advice is enjoy what we have whilst we have it as nothing would surprise me to milk us for more or restrict us so the rich and powerful are the only ones not forced onto a bus comrade!!!

Same for my 30 year old V8 (SEiGHT). On the upside, only 10 years to wait until it’s free!

Same for me, £325 for the Westfield, but only £20 for my diesel Alfa Romeo.

The Westfield is 32 years old, but on a Q plate,  will this become tax exempt?
