Hi, Late last year my alternator failed so ordered a new one up, I really wasn't quite "with it" that day, and stupidly got the wrong "hand" for the mounting of the adjuster. Now I have no clue what engines these will fit, but a Xflow is NOT one of them. This is brand new never fitted ( as it didn't take long to work out I had the wrong one) £50 plus postage ( but i won't know what that is till I take to to the post office ) .

ETA.

Following a conversation below, this can be swapped over, so thanks to @dvd8n for the suggestion it may work and @AndrewBClarke for confirming it does , thanks guys.

Aren't these convertible by disassembling them and rotating the back casting 120 degrees?

Now do you know what, I never thought about that , I did say I wasn't quite with it back then, I have the old one that failed so will try with that, but still offering this for sale as the car does little miles and the last one lasted 15 year in my ownership, so no clue how old it actually was.

I have to admit, I've never actually done it so I don't know how easy or hard it actually is in practice.

I'll let you know then, but does sound possible _ depends if there are any "gubbins" inside that would prevent that.

😀 my new one came the wrong ‘hand’. Phoned them up to complain and was told to undo the holding nuts and rotate. Did as they said and all fine.

Thanks for confirming this.  I'd heard that it was the case but never having done it myself I didn't want to be too definite.

I've replaced all the replaceable bits in mine: brushes, diode pack, regulator - more than once in the regulator case, plus I re-soldered the rotor coil tails to the slip rings when heat melted the original solder and centrifugal forces flung the tails out from their connections. The alternator in a Pinto installation is very close to the exhaust manifold.

Disconnected rotor winding tails:

Broken brush 'pigtail':

The broken pigtail resulted in an electrically 'noisy' signal on the electrical system which upset my rev-limiter. Re-soldering the pigtails had to be done with high melting point solder.

Yes I know they are rebuildable to a point, but I wasn't well enough at the time to do that, and searching for stuff on the net was hard work for me, today I am a lot better so would do that now. Wow, looks like that got hot and melted the solder?, had starter motors with brush failure exactly like that too. I rebuilt the Xflow one some years ago, so should last for a while now, especially as the car rarely actually makes its way out of the garage, lol.

Glad to hear you're better Richard, my Westfield hasn't turned a wheel for a good while. My son - also a 'Richard' - is now ensconced in Sydney with his family and he was a significant driver for us going on track days. I shall get it off its trailer and MoT tested at some point. It'll appear on the for sale section here no doubt.

Not quite better but getting there everyday, thankyou 👍.  I could not part with mine, too much time and effort has gone into it, not to mention the blood and cash. Once i've gone it's gifted to a mate of 30 years who is also a petrol head and into classic cars as I am, no doubt his sons will have a ball with it ( they are still kids at the moment though) . Will it be replaced with another Westy or maybe modern sports car?. I would trade Sydney for Blackpool anytime, I can see why he moved over there, rained all day again here, but then its Britain it's a given...

It wasn't the city, nor even the country. It was the girlfriend/fiancée/wife and now two children! She's a doctor in a Sydney hospital and when he was on a one year spell in Oz while he was at med. school, he met this young lady. Emirates, Singapore Airlines, Malaysian Airlines, et al have all benefited since! We went to their wedding in December 2017 in Hunter Valley NSW and as far as I am concerned it's too damned hot. 27C is my preferred maximum and on their wedding day it was already 30 degrees at 10am  and it only got hotter. They seem settled though so the airline industry are rubbing their hands.

I have had a BMW Z3 2.2i for fourteen years and that is fun enough on the crowded roads of the south east. Too many near misses because of the invisibility (it seems) of the Westfield have confined it to track days.

Yes I can relate to the invisibility aspect, not driven it for over 8 months now or whenever I MOT'd it, but I can guarantee at least one time ( more sometimes) on every run someone pulls out on me or just thinks I am a push over for being a small car whilst they sit in a big SUV, lol. At least most AU houses have aircon, unlike here as its rarely needed, its why I said I would swap, you get the heat, but but can retire indoors and cool off.

Quite so Richard. Without aircon it would be very difficult. The nub of it is though that - to sanitise an old grandfather's saying I read somewhere - "A woman's charms will draw you farther than a bomb could ever blow you!" :angel-emoticon:
