Westfields Rock On Posted March 8, 2004 Posted March 8, 2004 must say i like the VW 1.8T diesel jobby. Quote
MartT Posted March 9, 2004 Posted March 9, 2004 We've got a Passat and would definitely consider another and a diesel at that. Not being a hatch can be a bit of a pain, but the boot is huge and if it is for towing, you've obviously got a trailer. Mondeo - haven't been in one of the new ones so can't comment on its abilities, but I think the VW has the looks advantage. although I'm sure about the rear lights Ours is a '97 so first of the new shape. It is the 20v Sport so goes well and is very comfortable. mind you we did have a 3 door Vitara before, but don't ask why, 'cos I'm not sure anymore Quote
Al Yupright Posted March 9, 2004 Posted March 9, 2004 Isnt the Mondeo TDCI diesel engine a peugeot based design? Quote
windy Posted March 9, 2004 Posted March 9, 2004 Passat - too expensive & overrated , Mundano - depreciates incredibly What about this. Lost all its money in depreciation by its previous owner - ouch! Bargain tow barge & limo cruiser Quote
Impney Posted March 9, 2004 Posted March 9, 2004 Skoda Superb is like it's name suggests but no estate. Current Mondeo drives better than the Passat, not as well built though. Passat rock solid, dull, but gets the job done. I've had two one diesel, one petrol. Prefered the diesel. We've got 45 Passats on the fleet at work. All shapes and sizes, the drivers all rave about them. Many have stuck with them despite the fact they have to use their own money to upgrade from the standard issue Vectra. Nobody has chosen a Mondeo. Passat 130 TDI with the 5 speed box uses less fuel than the six speeder. Quote
jdinhants Posted March 9, 2004 Posted March 9, 2004 How about the Citroen C5 2.2 HDI Estate 50mpg, great tow car, self levelling suspension. After problems with both Ford and VW would not touch either company If its a diesel buy a French model Quote
Buzz Billsberry Posted March 9, 2004 Posted March 9, 2004 Paul I've had both as company cars and the mondeo's are crap full stop. I had a 53 passat 130 last year did 35k in it one of the best rep mob's you can have unfortunately they are both German cars (and design by the same guy!! as will be my new A4 estate (which I'm still f**king waiting usleess erics) Stick with the Passat; better build quaility, classier looks, better features, smoother ride, great engine (not like the clatterbox TDCi ford) better resale value better fuel consumption and if it bothers you you'd don't feel like a rep driving a Passat Plus if you can hang on until september the new model comes out and it looks superb Buzz Buzz Quote

Impney Posted March 9, 2004 Posted March 9, 2004 How about the Citroen C5 2.2 HDI Estate Stay away from Citroen. Unreliable heaps of junk. Customercare the worst I've experienced. Quote
Martin Keene Posted March 10, 2004 Posted March 10, 2004 Isnt the Mondeo TDCI diesel engine a peugeot based design? Yep, it's a Peugeot engine. Ford and Peugeot have an agreement on diesel engines, where it is below 2 ltrs peugeot design it. If it's above 2 ltrs Ford design it... keep your eyes peeled for the new 2.7ltr twin turbo v6 oil burner coming to a show room near you soon... Quote
Guest Posted March 10, 2004 Posted March 10, 2004 Pedden Get the Mondeo ! Trying to tell me the obvious Ash?? You know where my radar is pointing!! Cant' drive the bleeding A Class much longer - driving me mad. Thanks for all the comments. Don't like Citroens - had a GS1220 Club once - nearly killed me when a mini pulled out. Hit the mini side on and flattened the weld seam near the back window - no other damage. Jolly Mr Fireman had to cut me from the Citroen - and jolly Miss Nurse put me back together again. Took about 6 months to recover. Looks like it is a Passat then. Let the search begin. Thanks Windy - Omega is a great car - would have another except the new deisel is awful. Turbo laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag or what. Quote
