MacG Racing Open Day - 10am Saturday 2nd September

Rob Hunter - Club Secretary

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Those that made it to Newark will probably have spotted the MacG Racing stand with their stunning Taranis race car (a massively modified and upgraded Ultima).

We got chatting to them about the possibility of an open day and after some further discussions with our friend Michael who runs Burton Car Club they have agreed to put one on for us! I believe they are also inviting the Ultima owners club.

MacG started life racing a Westfield before moving onto the Ultima and Ginettas (and have an MK currently). On top of their racing business they also do chassis set up and sell things like sequential gearboxes, suspension, wheels etc.

Here is the 7Spot interview with them on YouTube.

We will aim to get there about 10am, address is as follows:

Barrow Bridge Industrial Estate,

Barrow upon Trent,

Derby,

DE73 7HH

Hope to see you there👍

Sounds interesting. I'm away the Sunday that weekend, so that might be a good run out on the Saturday.

  • 4 weeks later...

A few of us will be doing a pre-meet for a coffee and some breakfast with some of the local Burton Car Club.

We will be meeting at the Cherry Tree Farm pub on the A38/A50 services (DE65 6DX) about 9am and be departing about 945am as MacG is just around the corner.

If you are coming that way feel free to join us 👍

Damn. I missed this with being away. Really gutted I can't make it as I have been wanting to build an Ultima for years and have been following the MacG guys for some time. I am shifting furniture to Belper so I could really cut a dash and turn up in a Yeti with a horse trailer on the back :)

Have a great time.

Luke.

The "few of us" ended up as 8 Westfields, 2 Ferrari replicas, an MK, a Racecorp V8, an Elise and a TVR! And that was just for breakfast! 👏

Nice to see some of the Burton Car Club guys out with their lovely motors.

After a lovely "all you can eat" breakfast (I won't need to eat all weekend 😂) we headed off in convoy.

Landing at MacG we found Dave, Ian and Andy already there, the car park was full of stunning cars....

It was great to old friend (and ex Westfield owner) Steve there too in his beautiful Noble in prime position, flanked by a Ferrari 400i and an Ultima.

Huge thanks to the MacG guys who had put on a fantastic welcome, with tea and coffee laid on with a huge array of cakes and danishes!

Their operation is even more impressive, with excellent road and race car preparation, chassis set up and parts sales department.

While they are very well known and highly respected in the Ultima community, they also have experience of our cars (Westfield, MK and GBS) and can supply 13" and 15" wheels (4x100 and 4x108 in various offsets), shocks, springs and do full chassis set up, geo and corner weighting.

A very successful morning, not only a great car meet in its own right but we have also met a new company with the ability to help with our specialised and beloved motors. They are a great bunch of guys too 👍

A great day, thoroughly enjoyed the visit, thanks Rob!

As for MacG Racing, an impressive setup there, and their knowledge and enthusiasm shines through. Knowledge of Westfields and similar is great too, especially the race prep knowledge. Based off conversations had there today, I'd certainly give them a go for geo set up's etc.

A 'wow' of Ulitimas? Is that the correct collective noun?
