Norrie Posted August 5, 2023 Posted August 5, 2023 (edited) Hi guys, just saying hello on my first sorté into this forum. I've wanted to build a kit car for many, many years but mortgages, kids and the usual family priorities scuppered my plans every time. But now I've cheated and bought an Seight from a very good friend and loving it. Speed bumps mean I can barely leave the village but longer coil-overs should sort that, I can't be the only one with that problem. Anyhoo, nice to be here and looking forward to wisdom, banter and stuff. Cheers! Edited August 5, 2023 by Norrie Childish spelling 1 Quote
Benrobson2999 - Kent AO Posted August 5, 2023 Posted August 5, 2023 Welcome. I don’t have clearance issues but bottom out occasionally when driving spiritedly Quote
kenton Posted August 5, 2023 Posted August 5, 2023 Hello from a fellow Seight owner. Where are you located? Do you have under slung exhausts or is it the sump your worried about? Pics of the car would be good. All the best Kenton Quote

Also started my ownership with a SEight. Where are you located? And BTW it appears to be the law on here to add photos - just so you know the etiquette same as I’m still learning. Welcome from the Black Country. Phil R 1 Quote

Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted August 6, 2023 Posted August 6, 2023 Welcome Norrie, have fun with your new car! I’d check whether the current suspension can be adjusted enough to clear your villages speed bumps before necessarily buying new. It often doesn’t take much raising to do it. I’d also check to see what’s catching, underneath. Sometimes it’s something daft like the seat mounting bolts, which can usually be shortened a little. If you do decide on new suspension, @DamperMan on here is well worth speaking to. His Spax packages are extremely well matched to Westfields, - he owns one, after all! Finally on the suspension, once at a suitable height* with or without dampers, it will be well worth having the suspension geometry properly set up by a specialist. It can transform the cars handling, if it’s never been done. *note there is an optimum height range for the suspension, so don’t wind things up too high! 1 1 Quote
Norrie Posted August 6, 2023 Author Posted August 6, 2023 Hey, thanks for the welcomes and for the advice. Much appreciated. I'm in Kingseat which lies close to Dunfermline - itself just over the Forth bridges, north of Edinburgh. I bought the car from Brian Hunter, a very good friend of mine and one who was active on this forum. He recommended it to me. The car has side mounted exhausts and although a good sump guard is fitted the clearance is only a whisker over 2". I'll pop some piccies up when I find out how to do it! (What the heck is a URL?) Ansoeb Posted August 6, 2023 Posted August 6, 2023 Welcome to the forum, I just joined the club a couple months back when I purchased my first Westie. I am on the Fife east coast, I have been working though suspension adjustment as the car bottomed out a few times on our great local roads. I have protec shocks & springs which suit fiddling with the adjustment no problem at all. messege me if your going out some time, there are a couple other Westfields in Dunfermline also. I will be at Knockhill for touring cars on Sun. cheers Andy Quote
marka Posted August 6, 2023 Posted August 6, 2023 Welcome Norrie It's not cheating buying one instead of building one!!!!😜! Only had mine for a couple of months now but first week succumbed to speed bumps on a well known road that never used to have them before but they suddenly sprung up and damaged the sump. Sorted now. Be careful!👍 Quote

While it's true, people are, rightly, proud of building Westfields, those that build also miss out on the joys of buying one that's already built; nothing compares to that first drive home in it either! I've done both, built and bought, they're just different experiences, and I'm really glad I was lucky enough to have experience both way of owning a Westfield. Quote
Jenko Posted August 9, 2023 Posted August 9, 2023 Welcome, and as already mentioned.....we love pics!. Regarding the speed bumps....first thing (as mentioned) is to check the ride height and make sure its around about where it needs to be......By buying longer shocks you could be solving a problem that doesn't exist. It could be that your ride height is perfect, and that a shorter sump is better investment for your new machine.....Lots of threads on how to measure ride height...start with this. Quote
