I've very glad it was not the same place though on the driver side as that is where the brake and fuel lines run. If I referb or build another Westi I'd not route them as guided they would be all down the tunnel sides. Thankfully, the XI is meant to have the brake line run in the tunnel, on top of the lower chassis rail. The fuel line goes straight from the tank, which is alongside my right knee, to the engine bay. Jaime Ward Posted August 13 Posted August 13 Maybe a bit early, but the winter strip down and refresh has begun! Few changes to be made, hopefully next time it comes out the garage in one piece she will be more of a machine! 😁 7 Quote
Flying Carrot Steve Posted August 13 Posted August 13 Interesting, where have you placed your cold air intake? I'm always interested in how other turbo cars are done differently to mine. I'm in a similar situation atm though! Started to do one job, then decided may as well do as many as I can given September is closing in. 4 Quote

My turbo is mounted under the manifold so the intake is relatively low compared to yours. 1 1 Quote

DIY-Si Posted August 16 Posted August 16 I've started work on assessing the damage done to the XI. This was flat: The lowered passenger floor has taken a bit more of a beating than I realised, as it doesn't look too bad from underneath. Lifting the seat pad out gave a different view, as I could fit my hand under the gap. Some how, the chassis has nothing more than a scuff to the powdercoat at the front! There are three rivnuts that spin due to bent bolts, but otherwise the damage is limited to the bolt on undertray and the seat floor. I am rather glad I was flying solo at the time! 3 Quote

Good grief @DIY-Si , the XI took quite a beating. Yes, if you'd had a passenger, they would certainly have felt something trying to come through the floor! 1 Quote
Popular Post DIY-Si Posted September 6 Popular Post Posted September 6 Almost two years late, but I've managed to get my 40th birthday present sorted: A flight experience at Goodwood, in their Harvard. I had an amazing time, and got to fly her for maybe 5 mins whilst we were up,followed by a suitable amount of aerobatics. It turns out, if you don't clench hard enough, you really can start to grey out at the bottom of a 4g loop. 😮 Quick in-flight selfie: The view out over the wing, showing Thorney Island: An ever so slightly adrenaline filled me: I may take up wearing flight suits, as they're rather slimming. 13 Quote
Andrzej Posted Monday at 21:44 Posted Monday at 21:44 Wow ! That is something ! Re flight suits- take it ! and use in Westfield , to drive on hot day or mechanic work, we use similar ,.comfortable, breathable, lot of pockets, and some nomex - thin but always better than cotton material. 1 Quote
Popular Post Andrzej Posted Monday at 21:46 Popular Post Posted Monday at 21:46 I have simulated my body weight in the Westfield to set up the alignment after replacing a wishbone And by the way – don’t throw away your old brake discs, they can be really useful! 4 9 Quote
Stuart Davis AO - Devon Cornwall & Somerset Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago Changed Winston into his winter plumage, by fitting the 15” wheels with new Uniroyal Rainsport 5 boots on, in place of the 13” R888Rs. Also refitted my half doors and popped the roof on so I’m ready for anything. It will be interesting to see how different the drive is from a ride and grip perspective. These are 195/50 vs 205/60, at least it should have a bit more grip in standing water, the 888s only have about 2mm of tread left which is fine in summer but…. I also weighed the wheels/tyres to see how they compare. Less difference than I thought. 14.65kg for the 15” with the 195s and 13.75kg for the 13” with 205s. I prefer the look of the 13” still. Annoyingly I somehow managed to b*****r the thread on one of the bolts which holds the caliper on (and the bottom of the cycle wing bracket) so will need to source another. 3 Quote
