no track experience

So, having never been to a trackday I read the rules and they all seemed like good sense. Then I watched some footage. In the main it was what I had expected. Then I happened to stumble across other clips of some really moronic driving (Thankfully no 7 drivers!). I used to marshall years ago and couldn't get my head round some of  of it not being flagged. So I guess my question is do events vary much, and if so are there particular organisers/circuits to avoid? This would be really helpful as I am hoping to get on track later this year (Finances permitting). Thanks for your feedback.

Yes, unfortunately they can vary on their car discipline.

A really great first track day would usually be own WSCC track day at Blyton, but not sure if/when etc 2023 @Terry Everall - WSCC Competition Secretary??

This is an excellent track for first timers with enough to keep more experienced interested too.

And great if can stop over to watch sprints the day after.

David, I don't think that Blyton is going to happen this year, unfortunately. In fact, I think that Terry did post about this a while ago. It isn't financially viable, because the support both from our Club members, and other invited clubs, has been falling for several years so that the weekend has been running at a loss, increasing year by year.

Thanks to you both, its a real shame to hear this is not happening. It would have been a treck for me, but one I would have done if it meant feeling happier about who I would be sharing a track with.

I see you are Gatwick based so i guess Brands Hatch would be ok for you..

You can always get an idiot at a trackday wether a youngster in his Renault Megane or clio or some middle aged muppet in his new Lotuse Exige or 911

However generally the MSVT track days (MSV owning most of the circuits) tend to be generally pretty good standard.

MSV also do Novice track days, I just looked and they have one at Donnington, Snetterton and Oulton park.. could be a good choice, not sure if they have one at Brands...

They also have their track at Bedford which is a good track for starting and generally well organised..

I think generally if you just go at your own pace and build up your speed through out the day you will be fine.

Cheers, this is good to know. I used to marshal for MSV on race days, I think that was why I was so surprised. It sounds like maybe this was another track/organiser. If there is a consensus on MSVT I might look at getting myself up to brands hatch.

I did my first trackday in the Westie last year at Donington and found the driving to be very considerate. I didn't spot one pass not on a straight and people were giving each other room.

You get the odd person not checking their mirrors occasionally, but it's not a race so a bit of patience and they'll generally spot you before the next corner and let you past.

I've been on a fair few and everyone is normally well behaved. Videos that get views and do come up on searches tend to document the bad stuff or they are not that interesting. Also we all can make mistakes and ill hold my hand up couple of times I've thought whoops should not have done that.

If you do spot a wrongun give them a wide berth or back off let them past. No biggy. its a great way to experience what your Westfield is all about and makes you a better driver on the road. go for it.

Is this likely to happen?

I joined in on this in 2021 (before the sprint event) and it was a great day.

No date as yet

We would need to know how many Westfields or club members are interested

How many would you need? I'm sure we'd get some good interest from my area (me included) for a weekend event
