Despite some kind words from the Derbyshire crew to the contrary, I am living up to my nickname too much, even more so after a gluttony sprint over Christmas. At one point, whilst loading my plate up again on Christmas Day, my little eight year old muttered the immortal words ‘Daddy, if you carry on like that you will end up eating the hot plate as well!’ 🤣 Weight peaked at a horrifying level, well it began with a ‘2’ in stone if that gives an idea. Prior to the pandemic, I reached a similar point and embarked on a two year fitness campaign which got me down to around 14st, where I should be. Unfortunately lockdown was my undoing, particularly spending months ‘working from the kitchen’, about three feet from the fridge 😬 My biggest weakness is chocolate, and all things sweet (don’t mention cake please!), but so far I have managed to get my cravings under control and have been chocolate free for four days. Hopefully that’s all I need to get on the right track. My plan is to do what I did before, start walking everyday and build it up to a decent level. I was walking over 50km a week I guess, and there are some nice walks from where we are now in Crewkerne, so no excuses! Non Westfield related benefits: Health; avoiding diabetes! Energy levels; keeping up with said eight year old Happiness; I’m much less grumpy when exercising Sleep; Mrs Stu does not enjoy the snoring which comes along with the weight! More important (🤪) Westfield related benefits Should fit in my narrow bodied SEi more easily Might even be able to refit the seat Approx 40kg weight loss should improve acceleration without spending any cash on tuning! So, if anyone is in a similar boat, please feel free to post up here and we can give moral support to each other. Otherwise any encouragement along the lines of ‘You can do it chubby’ will be appreciated. Pictures of cake should be avoided, but if you must, you must, it will build up my resistance to temptation! 🤣. Coffee and Walnut pictures for me please 🤪 I’m back under the big 2 0 already, so next stop is something with an 18 at the beginning, target 14 by the end of the year ish 💪 Sounds far more fun to go buy some carbon
Stuart Davis AO - Devon Cornwall & Somerset
Well I had a pretty rough week, quite stressful at work and had a few eating blips, but I still managed to weigh in at 19st 10 1/4 this morning, 3/4 lb. Not where I wanted to be but still going in the right direction.
jeff oakley
Better than nothing Stu. You understand why it was not more so do not beat yourself up
corsechris
In the spirit of mutual support, around -1lb for me this last week. I can cheat by weighing myself after an exercise session as I usually sweat off a pound or so ….but I try to avoid that as the following day usually sees a more normal figure. As long as it’s negative, it’s good. 1

Having a better week this week, so hopefully should have more positive (or negative!) news to report on Monday 👍
corsechris
I do the same - weigh first thing in the morning to try for some consistency. That it usually coincides with me being at my lightest on any given day is pure coincidence...
Stuart Davis AO - Devon Cornwall & Somerset
In early news….. 😉 19st 3 7/8lb this morning, over 6lbs lost last week. More than I’m aiming for on a weekly basis normally but the early pounds are normally easier to shift. Just been avoiding the snacking/chocolate/sweet things, and exercising a bit more (walking mainly) Will be great to be back under 19st again.
corsechris
Wow, that's a good week. My last week no so impressive. No change.
Stuart Davis AO - Devon Cornwall & Somerset
Oooh, frustrating one. Yesterday I was 18st 13 3/4, but this morning, which I’m treating as reporting day, I was 19st and half a pound. Still, a fraction under 3 and a half pounds so that’s pretty good. The car certainly felt a bit less snug already at the weekend 😀
jaykay42
Good afternoon, @fatblokestu Was great to see the pics of your outing! Regarding the scales... It's obviously horses for courses, so being driven by targets and numbers may very well work for you. However, if we're honest the only thing worth chasing is a "new" equilibrium where you're happy with how snug the seat fits around you and an effort that you can sustain forever more. Anything else is either pointless because too unrealistic to achieve or you're not contend with (i.e. a target weight too low or still too high) - or it is not sustainable for life. Frankly, deciding on this realistic equilibrium based on numbers on a scale wouldn't work for me. It's far more about how contend I feel in myself. Does a mirror have some input, yes. But it's not the deciding factor. (I don't even own scales). Just a thought....

However, much like you, what I am actually chasing is to feel better in myself, not to be constantly aching and to relieve the pressure on my back and avoid getting diabetes! I did manage to lose weight successfully before lock down and it felt sustainable then, however lockdown did for me so I need to do it all again. I felt SO much better before, and that’s what I need again.
jaykay42
Hi! Chasing the target by numbers is one thing ... maintaining it on numbers a different one. Imagine having a great day, the sun is out, enough time for a blast in the Westfield, a run/swim/cycle whatever cardiovascular activity floats your boat, some lovely yet healthy food with friends/family/loved ones and going to bed feeling exhausted yet wonderful. That's all we need to feel good about the world and ourselves (substitute any of the activities with whatever actually makes you feel good at the end of a day). Would I want that ruined by whatever numbers the scales are showing me? The reason could be my own excesses the day before, or some quirk out of my control. But how easy would it be to slip back into bad habits if even a day of being good (active+healthy food) doesn't end with the desired numbers. On the other hand, even if the numbers were right, I don't need the scales to confirm that I had a good day. J

J Believe me, I don’t disagree with anything you are saying, and that’s where I want to be. BUT, and to use the joke, it’s a big BUTT 🤣. I need to get back down to a place where I am healthy, fit and able to enjoy life a lot more, then I can relax into the ways you were talking about. My right knee and hips hurt, totally due to weight and the answer is to shift the pounds. My back hurts, it always will but it’s much worse when carrying the weight, so it has to shift, and the only way I know is to focus on it. Am I good at maintaining once I’m there? NO! 😱 That’s my problem. I really thought I nailed it before lockdown, thinking I had changed my lifestyle and nothing felt like a diet anymore, but lockdown undid all that, working at crazy times of the morning to make enough hours to share some childcare with Mrs Stu was exhausting and meant I dropped my exercise and it all went to pot. I’ll get back there. I suspect you don’t suffer from the same weight issues so it is perhaps easier to adopt your approach?
jaykay42
Yes, I agree 100% with you on all the above. - lockdowns were **** and did lots of harm. First one was a breeze, subsequent ones almost drove me over the edge - yes, I'm lucky in that I don't have weight troubles I feel for you and hope you get back on track. Even more, I hope we'll meet up in person this year with our cars for a blast through the South-West!

That would be excellent. Have been talking to some of the others about an Exmoor blat in the summer so stay in touch and we can all meet up.
