windy Posted February 27, 2004 Posted February 27, 2004 Yep painted my car too for about £200 all in with 2K. Good fun learning to get it right & very rewarding. Quote
Dracoro Posted February 27, 2004 Author Posted February 27, 2004 BTW - I'm certainly not painting the thing myself! Quote
Tigger Posted February 27, 2004 Posted February 27, 2004 Hey Rob, You got me thinking now You mentioned that a lightweight body work was only £800. What's the difference to a normal body as in material and what is the cost difference to a normal body? Quote
Andy H Posted February 27, 2004 Posted February 27, 2004 Mine too is a narrow body and looking to get mine re-sprayed or re-bodied, how easy is it to rebody your self? I have no experience in fitting body work at all Quote
StuartMackay Posted February 28, 2004 Posted February 28, 2004 I have been considering having my car sprayed silver and have been quoted between £5-800. HTH Quote
Tigger Posted February 28, 2004 Posted February 28, 2004 Andy, I have fitted a body to an SE before and its not too bad, just have to have a good eye and a bit of patience. They're not as easy apparently as the SeiW as they don't have locating lugs but if you copy your old tub, you shouldn't go far wrong. I just want to know what the difference between the lightweight and normal body (apart from the obvious - it's lighter) and is there a vast difference in price? Quote
Rob Navin Posted February 28, 2004 Posted February 28, 2004 Tigger I am not sure what the actual weight difference is but I can assure you you can feel the difference when you compare the two styles. I'm not 100% sure what the current cost is as mine was brought last year. There is no other difference between normal and liight weight as they are done in the same moulds but not layered up as much. The only down side to the light weight gear is that it can be easier to dammage with stone chips from underneath. I have had mine on a year now, running with underseal under the wheel arches and I have not got any starts yet. I had no experience of fitting body work at all when I did mine, but if you take the old one off steadily and use this as a template it all becomes a lot easier. HTH Rob Quote
timd Posted February 28, 2004 Posted February 28, 2004 I have had mine on a year now, running with underseal under the wheel arches and I have not got any starts yet. Wonder what the difference in weight is between a "lightweight" arch covered in underseal, and a normal arch... Quote
Tigger Posted February 28, 2004 Posted February 28, 2004 Well somebody out there must know the answer to all these questions - I see the Blatman hasn't commented yet I suppose I could always call Westfields but that's too easy Quote
chazpowerslide Posted February 28, 2004 Posted February 28, 2004 It's not complicated to re-body just a bit time consuming to get it right. I have a new bodyset on order at the moment at £900 inc. for my SE in yellow (£100 deposite and a six week wait) I also picked up an un-fitted "as new" body in black for £600 a while back but ones like this do not come up often, this is going on my Pinto car. I think to have a professional job done by specialists would be just as much as a rebody, I personally think a re-body is allways going to take less looking after. Chaz. Quote
Spencer Posted March 2, 2004 Posted March 2, 2004 Why, thank-you Mr Bananaman and Mr Beeland .....for what its worth, I'd re-body unless experienced in paint-spraying. I'll try most things but not that...AND, Mr "Windy" Millar, you're still in trouble for turning your Mums spanking new chest freezer orange from your Escort painting!!...mind you, at least you've ditched your "lucky" blue/orange "racing" shoes Actually, the white/black bodywork on my car is a re-body too, after restyling the old red body ...images of the Indian Peugeot TV advert The wings are actual black Westfield items rather than sprayed white ones. Spencer Posted March 2, 2004 Posted March 2, 2004 ...I really don't think that was it's best side! Old photo, has changed a bit since... Quote
