Dracoro Posted February 26, 2004 Posted February 26, 2004 How much would it cost to respray an entire westie in a different colour? I've seen a suitable car but it's red and I would like to respray it in something more 'me'. Possibly yellow, black, lime green or silver. Quote
amdaudi Posted February 26, 2004 Posted February 26, 2004 I re-sprayed my car myself for about £230.00, but I would guess a spray shop would on average cost you in the region of £800 - £1000. It may be cheaper to replace the whole body. Steve D will be able to give you a better estimate. Chris Quote
Tigger Posted February 26, 2004 Posted February 26, 2004 Hey Audi, I'm thinking of spraying my car too. Can you advise on what paint is best and any techniques I may have to aquire to spray it myself. Bearing in mind I have only ever painted woodwork and model planes Quote
amdaudi Posted February 27, 2004 Posted February 27, 2004 Hi Tigger, I am probobly not the best person to ask. This was my biggest project to date. I have only sprayed a bumper and wing before. I used 2K paint which is highly poisonous to spray unless you have the correct gear. Another big problem is the mess! it gets everywhere, and I mean everywhere. It took me over a day and a half to clean my dad's garage, and I am still finding spray dust on his tools. If you still feel as if you want to have a go then you will require the following. A good compressor, air fed mask, a good spray gun, a oil/water seperator and regulator, draught free garage, excellent lighting, and finally plenty of patience and attention to detail. Like I say I am no expert and I am sure someone will come along and correct me on some points. All in all it is a good feeling if you manage to pull it off, and I have had some great feedback from some lads in the trade. Quote
oioi Posted February 27, 2004 Posted February 27, 2004 a freind of mine re-sprayed his westie very succesfully last year have a look on www.ne7ers.co.uk and Alans car to see photo record Quote

Rob Marshall Posted February 27, 2004 Posted February 27, 2004 I had my last westfield professionally resprayed it cost a fortune, and was a pain to look after as the stone chips show the orginal colour. It would be much cheaper and simpliar to rebody the car. If you still want to have the car resprayed I would talk to Steve Davies at Winford Body Shop (Speed Series sponsor) on 01606 592270. Quote
scott beeland Posted February 27, 2004 Posted February 27, 2004 But not before he's sorted my Xantia on Monday Quote
Tigger Posted February 27, 2004 Posted February 27, 2004 Firstly, I don't really relish the idea of driving around in a white car, it's just is was going for a good price and I thought I could always spray it later. Didn't know it would be so involved though. Secondly, it was a choice of spray it or replace all the panels - anybody done this on an older "SE". Not sure which would be cheaper/easier to do? Quote
Rob Navin Posted February 27, 2004 Posted February 27, 2004 I have rebodied my last two westy three times. All of these were aroow bodies and they all came out looking great. The last light weight body work I fitted cost me £800 and you don't have any of the hassle Rob has mentioned with the stone chips. I have to say thet the narrow bodied cars are harder to do than the wide that I have just done for a friend as you dont have the location lugs on most of the parts. However if you take your time, measure it and get it to look right with tape before you fix it there is not a great deal to worry about. For my money I would rebody every time as you can always sell on your old body work as well. HTH Rob Quote
amdaudi Posted February 27, 2004 Posted February 27, 2004 I can second that Rob Navin's car looks great, and its cream! Quote
