Rob Hunter - Club Secretary Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 Hi all! In the absence of @Julie Hall - WSCC AO Representative and Glen (who have more holidays than Alan Whicker!), we are doing a Peaks meet and run out tomorrow morning. It probably won't be as exciting as Julie's runs (I dont have same encyclopaedic knowledge of the Peaks!) but I'll do my best! We will meet up at the Woodside Cafe on Via Gellia Road (DE4 2AJ) at 10am for the usual coffee, butty and a chat before heading off for a 40 minute drive. We will head west through to Hartington and Hulme End and then north up to the Bull Yard (the renamed and reopened Bull I Thorn, SK17 9QQ) on the A515 for about 12 ish for a spot of lunch before going our seperate ways👍 For those coming from the south, we will do the normal A50/A38 services (DE65 6DX) pre meet for 9am so we can convoy up together. Hopefully we will see some of you in the morning, the forecast is looking good 😎 2 Quote

Tricky Posted August 7, 2022 Posted August 7, 2022 Sorry Rob, did this yesterday, fancied a blast but no one had posted a trip out, (didn't realise Julie was away...... Again! 🤨😆), guess I should have suggested? Will try to get out with you all next time, as I'm due a meet with you all, as it stands a 40+ mile mountain bike ride is in the offing this morning. 1 Quote

Not a problem, apologies it was last minute, I wasn't 100% sure I could do it until yesterday! Enjoy your masochistic cycling activities and see you on the next one 😂 Quote
Rob Hunter - Club Secretary Posted August 7, 2022 Author Posted August 7, 2022 What a great day out in the sunshine! Ash, Alex, John, Gary, Ben, Hedley (riding shotgun in the MNR), Tim, Martin and I all met up at the services for a chat and refuel before heading north. The journey was quite good fun as traffic was unusually light for most of the drive. We landed at the Woodside Cafe to find Glynn already there. Also there was Michael from Chesterfield who I'd invited along as he'd never been out on a group run. He owns a 1.8 turbo Mazda MK Indy and is interested in joining the club, what better way of selling membership than a Peaks run! The wider nose of the MK sure makes the turbo install easier... Shortly afterwards Lee arrived so we all indulged in a brew and some breakfast. The stars then aligned and we had an empty car park! Reminiscent of a Le Mans start, everyone rushed to shuffle the cars and get some stunning photos! The Woodside Cafe is a real old school "greasy spoon" but the car park does make a good photo 👌 After watching Hedley wandering up and down at least 153 times with his daft stick, Gary headed home and the rest of us decided to head off to find some quiet roads and some lunch. Traffic was awful up to Newhaven, but much better through Hartington, Hulme End and Crowdecote. Lee had a cycle wing malfunction enroute so we got split up into 2 groups but no harm done as everyone arrived at the Bull Yard (previously the Bull i Thorn) within minutes.... all except Lee.... A quick phone call established he was limping to meet us. Never one to miss an opportunity for a wind up, I quickly retrieved a sign I keep for such emergencies and attached it to Lee's roll cage 😂 After some leg pulling, Glynn brought out the trusty gaffer tape and a temporary repair was completed 👍 After a few photos (and Hedley yet again wandering around with a stick! 🤦♂️), Tim headed home and the rest of us went to seek food! A few minutes later Luke and his lovely wife Gemma arrived in the SEiGHT making eleven of us in total. A huge thanks to everyone for coming today, hopefully it came somewhere close to the amazing job @Julie Hall - WSCC AO Representative does! See you all on the next one! Thanks Rob 7 1 Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) Posted August 7, 2022 Posted August 7, 2022 A personal request only, but please for the love of God lets not descend into those awful, awful finger pointing pictures, so many people that aren't used to group runs etc that I speak to really find them off putting, and scare them off. That's not to say we should hide our woes and whoopsies! So I'll throw one in there! I got a bit carried away with the magnificent tunnels in the Alps, slowed down, dropped into second, and absolutely gunned it.... I deafened everyone in the tunnel and may have nearly triggered the apocalypse when I blew the entire silencer off the end of the manifold; causing a sound in the tunnel reminiscent of being nuked, a giant blue flame fireball next to the car, and a second ball of sparks, where the car was now dragging on the road, at xxx mph! Tapping a VERY hot silencer back onto the manifold, with a little tapping stick that @Ian Kinder (Bagpuss) - Joint Peak District AO "found" by the road side. And the comedy moment; the gloves I was using were wet through, from the boot, great handling the Mega hot silencer, right up to the point the water in the left glove turned to steam, and I shot backwards rolling around on the floor trying to get it off, much to everyone's puzzlement! (Except @Greenstreak-Andy D who chose a very well earned moment of revenge to get a photo! 2 Quote
