SootySport Posted July 24, 2022 Posted July 24, 2022 LC1 The twin 40's made them the best sounding car of the time. Remember them well when Jim Clark and others raced at Crystal Palace and Brands Hatch, cocking the inside front wheel. Always just out of my reach when I thought I had enough money to buy one. 1 Quote

Richard (OldStager) Posted July 24, 2022 Posted July 24, 2022 3 cars come to mind straight away. Classic Mini - either Cooper or 1275GT E Type - series 1 ideally or series 2 if pushed. Healey 3000 - in red and rally spec. All British cars I notice... Quote
Alan France Posted July 25, 2022 Posted July 25, 2022 Lancia Stratos. Had a Lancia beta coupe but every time you braked a bit more of the bodywork came off. 1 2 Quote

Well, I'm not so sure about cars I wish I had owned, but I did own a Mini Cooper S 1275 (actually it was 1293, because it had over-bored high compression pistons) and a Healey 3000 but mine was a lovely blue. Also a couple of Capri 2.8i back when they were new. And an Aston Martin DBS Vantage (not the modern one, the one with a straight 6 engine which was the replacement for the DB6). And I've got a 4.2 Jaguar XKR, but that is going to Buxton, for a classic car auction on Wednesday. (H&H Classics, lot 11 if anyone is interested!) 2 Quote
BigSkyBrad Posted July 25, 2022 Posted July 25, 2022 Abarth OT2000 - a Fiat 850 Sport (a pretty wee car in it's own right) with a 2000cc twincam stuffed in it. 0-60 in 5.3 sec, back in the late '60s! 5 Quote

Oh yes! What a cracking choice. I had an 850 Special as my first road legal car. I can only imagine how badly that would handle with the 2l TC hanging out the back!! Quote
BigSkyBrad Posted July 25, 2022 Posted July 25, 2022 @corsechris That would be the OT1600 Mostro. 1 Quote

corsechris Posted July 26, 2022 Posted July 26, 2022 That rear view with the back panel removed was, apart from the engine in mine being the wee 850cc engine, a very familiar one! It felt like I was swapping engines almost weekly. I kept trying to find a decent 903cc engine from scrapped Sports but they always seemed to be knackered. In true wannabe style, I even put a Sport interior in my Special. Sadly, it was still a dumpy little thing on the outside, but of course, it was my first car and I loved it. Quote
