Storm cap for SEi?

Stuart Davis AO - Devon Cornwall & Somerset

Recommended Posts

Having been reading the excellent posts from the Alps trip, I liked the look of the covers the chaps are using. A little Google searching took me to the Storm Cap on the softbitsshop website.

https://www.softbitsshop.co.uk/storm-cap-for-westfield-with-zk-or-f-w-bodywork-with-standard-roll-bar-jap-bar-1034-p.asp

My question is, do any of the standard offerings such as for the ZK or FW fit the SEi? My car has what I think is the RAC roll bar on it.

If not, do they do bespoke ones to order?

Thanks 👍

Hi Stu,

I've got the Walker St Clair storm cover.

You can see on my car here on our 2021 'Not Die Alpen' trip to Yorkshire last year.

As can be seen, it's not a perfect fit due to my added helmet box. I just use the front edge of the bonnet to hold the front down and a couple of bunjie cords as well.

They don't sell them anymore, but you may be able to find one second hand.

It helps keeps moisture out. I didn't use it this year on the Die Alpen 2022 trip, though.

It was used indoor (Porsche Museum) in 2019, just to keep my luggage out of sight-image.png.3fef8e63830f991240cea18a86da6dd5.png

Send softbits a picture of your car and then give them a call - they are very helpful over the phone and can let you know what they can do. I have their storm cover for an FW and it is a very nice piece of kit. I have a half hood on order which they are altering to suit my roll bar brake light.  Lead times are long at the moment though!

Thanks Steve. Unfortunately Softbits have replied to my enquiry saying they don’t do StormCaps for narrow bodied cars which is a shame. Just out of interest, is the FW more similar in width to the SEiW?

I wonder why they only need to make it less wide, very odd. Did you say you woulod supply measurements, maybe they don't have a pattern.

I didn’t ask any further as it was quite a closed response unfortunately.

Just my 2p worth, but wouldn't one of the larger softbits covers work pretty well anyway?

It might be a bit baggy and/or need some extra adjustment/tether points to keep it down, but being a narrow will at least mean it won't be too small.

I have a Walker St Clair (the same as @Ian Kinder (Bagpuss) - Joint Peak District AO) for my narrow, but as far as I know they were always a 'one size fits all' job.

Caveat, might be worth seeing if someone has one you or someone else can try before splashing the cash.

Thanks @Andy Malone - Editor, perhaps I will drop them a line with your link and see if they can do something later in the year. I’m not in any particular hurry so let’s see what happens.

Had a very similar experience with Soft Bits over last couple of weeks . Asked them to make me a storm cap and tonneau cover . They couldn’t make the storm cap for my SEIW because it had the square / goal post type roll bar ! As for the tonneau I sent numerous e mails photos and measurements over last two weeks only to be told today they can’t do it because I have a lockable boot lid ! Seems a bit odd as the first photo I sent clearly showed the boot lid. Anyway can anyone point me in the direction of a different company that could make me a tonneau?

I use an eBay quad bike cover.   It Most are about £15.   It’s just a water proof sheet with an elasticated skirt.     It’s been several years since I bought it.   IIRC it was a large but! I’ve slept since then.     At £15 you can try a few sizes .

Do you happen to know how the FW compares with an SEi? Is it the same/similar width to an SEiW?

An FW IS an SEiW, the only differences are due to the different style body work, the bare chassis are the same.

However, the shower cap is designed for the ZK bodywork, not the FW. It's a very tailored fit, too. I've got one from when I had ZK b(traditional) body work, but it doesn't fit my FW shape car anywhere near as well, if you hang on a mo, I'll pop it on and grab a photo.
