socko85 Posted April 7, 2022 Share Posted April 7, 2022 hi, i have recently bought a bike engine westfield and I'm in the process of swapping to a car engine. i wrongly assumed i would just tell the dvla the engine number and capacity. Having just looked into it further they want a receipt from the manufacturer of the engine, which i don't have as its a used engine and an engineers report from the installer, which is me. has anyone else gone through the process recently? 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Quinten Posted April 7, 2022 Share Posted April 7, 2022 I've been through this a few years ago (those requirements don't look to have changed), although I replaced a car engine (X-flow) with a car engine (Zetec), the capacity change is what is relevant. As I did the swap myself, with a 2nd user engine, I went with option 4: written confirmation on headed paper from a garage. I contacted several garages, one of whom was happy to write a letter saying they inspected this car <reg number> with engine <number> and can confirm that the engine is of this capacity <capacity>. Does this have to be from the manufacturer or the person you purchased the engine from as clearly its a second hand/used engine with a hand written receipt from Joe Bloggs? Hopefully you have a relationship with your local MOT garage who could supply such a confirmation letter. Quinten Posted April 7, 2022 Share Posted April 7, 2022 It's worth mentioning that I tried the receipt (from the person selling me the engine, it listed all the new details) method but got a friendly but firm letter back that it was not sufficient. That's when I went with the 4th option. There was no change in emissions for mine and from 1.6 to 1.8 is still in the same class. I can imagine coming from a bike engine you may go up a class? CosKev Posted April 7, 2022 Share Posted April 7, 2022 I've done it both ways,car engine to bike engine,then back again to a car engine😂🤦♂️ When I went car engine to bike engine I had to supply a headed letter from a garage confirming the bike was fitted in the car along with the engine number. This was because the car would then qualify for the lower band of PLG VED. Going from the bike engine,998cc to 2967cc,I never had to supply anything as proof,because it was moving into the more expensive PLG VED band I presume🤷🏾♂️ Just try filling in the change of cc box on the V5 and send it off,that's what I did and it came back with the new cc👍 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Nick Lester Posted April 7, 2022 Share Posted April 7, 2022 Having done this recently (1800 silvertop to 2000 blacktop zetec) I sent the DVLA the amended v5, a handwritten receipt for the new engine confirming the number and a letter from a reputable garage confirming said engine had been installed in the car.
