Mark Rs Posted February 15, 2022 Posted February 15, 2022 Hi Iam in the market for a Westfield and have a budget of £15k, what would this get me ? Thanks Mark Quote
SootySport Posted February 16, 2022 Posted February 16, 2022 That would buy you a nice Duratec, Zetec, C20XE engined car with a bit of tuning say 190 to 240 bhp. Take little notice of the year and mileage as many Westfield's have been up dated, rebuilt and you'll be checking the condition of the bodywork chassis and trim when viewing a car. Popular upgrades that add value are widetrack steering rack, carbon fibre body parts and dash, decent wheels and tyres, modern seats and harnesses to name a few. You'll need to decide if you want a road or track focused car as the options and upgrades are quite different. If you're a keen DIY type, it maybe beneficial to buy a basic no frills Westfield for £10k and upgrade it yourself to make it your own. Have a trawl through past classified ads and see what's going for your budget and prices do go up in springtime so be prepared for that in a couple of months. Happy hunting. 2 Quote
Mark Rs Posted February 16, 2022 Author Posted February 16, 2022 Hi Thanks for the advice, I would ideally like a well sorted red top, I wouldn’t mind doing bits of work to get it to my spec, be interested to see what’s out there for sale 1 Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted February 16, 2022 Posted February 16, 2022 Welcome Mark, that's a great budget that should cover a good range of cars. The best tip I can give is try and see as many as possible, as it will give you a great feel for what to look at. Area meets are fantastic for this, as you can have a good up-close look at the cars, ask questions etc. 1 Quote
SootySport Posted February 16, 2022 Posted February 16, 2022 I've just bought my second Redtop car, lucky to have the spec I wanted and only 3900 miles, You'll have to be prepared to travel long distances to find what you want, although you'll never find exactly what you want. I'm fitting a half cage, seats and windscreen to make it my own. 3 Quote

Rob Hunter - Club Secretary Posted February 16, 2022 Posted February 16, 2022 Welcome! As others have said, get out and see some cars.... I don't think I've ever seen two the same! Making a list of "must haves" (major mechanicals, windscreen or aero etc) is a great place to start as you can customise the details to suit yourself very easily later on. You have a healthy budget so you'll have plenty if choice! Good luck with the search 👍 Quote

Mark Rs Posted February 16, 2022 Author Posted February 16, 2022 What’s peoples thoughts on this one ? Seems overpriced ? https://www.gumtree.com/p/westfield/2003-westfield-7-seiw-2.0-16v-sbd-tuned-c20xe-200bhp-jenvey-omex-blue-track-car-/1420874773 Quote
TAFKARM Posted February 16, 2022 Posted February 16, 2022 What are you wanting to use the car for? You need to work backwards from that re spec. 1 Quote

A test drive would be worthwhile to make sure it's not too focused if you want a mainly road biased car. At the last MOT it had advisories on a leaking dry sump tank (hopefully just a hose?), wheel bearing play and play in the steering rack so I'd want all that sorting at that price. It's also had a new speedo at 12k (the Dash2). Quote

Haha, not my favourite tyre either.... loads of people run them without a problem. I have them on my track prepped Mini (they came with some ultralites I bought) and I can get wheelspin in 4th in the wet which makes life interesting! OK in the dry though I've found 1 Quote
