goodness me. The WSCC is *much* more than just this forum :bangshead:

I realise that fact may not be of relevance to those who don't want to be members regardless of circumstance, but there are definitely benefits to joining. In the events section there are already 3 WSCC track days for members at Cadwell, Oulton, and.....er...... I forget where else right now...... :0  Others come up during the year too, just like any other club. Also, some AO's aren't web enabled (which I think is a bit daft myself, but hey...) so some areas *only* way to contact the membership is through the mag. .......as with many clubs, you get out what you put in. Put in 25 quid, and you'll get far more than that in "value" out. In fact, you'll save more than that on just one of the track days mentioned.........

Then there is the magazine. Every two months you get a pretty good mag, with interesting articles, letters, tech sections, and of course, free ads for members. There are a significant number of memebrs who have no internet access at all who have just as much to contribute/buy/sell as us lot in cyberspace. Non members are missing out on those people/that marketplace. And lets not forget club regalia. OK, you may not want any, but *lots* of peoople do. For thsoe people, there is club merchandise, which is sold at very competitive rates, and the stuff I've bought is of excellent quality.

There are plenty of other forums out there that allow you to log in (no fee just sign up with username and password) and allow you to buy and sell freely... Find It has a Kit Car section for parts which is free... This has to be the only Anally Retentive Forum that Ive been on that insists constantly that posters sign up and pay for the privelage of certain services...

Wrong interpretation. The "what's in it for me" attitude is all to obvious. There is plenty in it for eveyone. The only people who can't see it seem to be non members. Surely that statistic says something..........

Some of you guys make me Giggle... Youd rather cut your noses off to spite your face than sell your spare bits to a non member,

Tony

I don't beleive I have seen anyone complaining about that.

The thread starter complained of bits being sold before he could get to them. Thats totally different.

Personally I voted 'NO' because I would prefer to sell to a wider audience. I guess if somebody did have strong enough feelings along the lines of your above sentence...........they could jack the price of their items up by £25..........and then offer Members a £25 discount   :p  :p  :p

Blatters, we dont need to go into the debate about whats in it for me again... Ive made several comments and observations on this forum only to be shot down by Paid up members because I havent!!! My comment was directly related to the question at hand which was "should we hide the ads section from non paid up members" (simplification I know but thats the gist of it)...

If I were to compare other clubs (which I do anyway) then the benefits are similar in one respect, They have magazines and other benefits. The key point Im making on this discussion is that why restrict a person from buying and selling parts which may be of benefit to all, not just signed and paid up members... I signed up to the board and registered only to find that I couldnt post on certain areas... Maybe youd get more people to pay if the management and long standing members were a little less anti or forceful...

If we were to open a debate on the Benefits then Im quite happy to contribute to that too.

You think we're anally retentive? Pop on over to the other place sometime... :D

I find it a little difficult to believe that the odd 'jokey' 'join the club' type comment puts a large number of people off joining.

The people who are put off by that sort of thing are probably those that have little intention of joining anyway...

I don't visit there often myself, but I thought I'd read somewhere that it was going over to a completely 'paid subscribers only' access policy? I think it was on the sevens mailing list...

aarrggghhhhhhhh!  i feel we have disapeared up our own arsheloes.

lets make a decision, end this thread and get on with it.  from what I can see its a tied vote with no consensus.

only 67 people have voted.  out of how many members?  and how many board users.

seems to me like the majority dont care, and those that do are divided.

either put something in place or not, but lets get back to the important things, wasting company time talking about cars girls and internet jokes/games.

Er.... it wasn't aimed at you specifically. It was general comment aimed at forwarding the discussion. I'm not the one who opened up this aspect of the discussion. You'll notice that I haven't commented (or voted, for that matter) on the subject yet, because I haven't seen a good argument for either view, as far as the members ad's is concerned.

So, lets get to the bones of it. From what I have read and observed, ie in MY PERSONAL opinion it seems that one member has been "gazumped" on something he wanted to buy, by a non member. I say, that's life, and move on. However, the member in question saw fit to say something about it in public, in the hope of perhaps getting something changed so that it wouldn't happen to him again. Our erstwhile topic starter probably didn't have the greater good in mind when he started this topic. That's NOT a complaint or a strongly held opinion, just an observation/supposition on which I'll stand to be corrected. I shall continue to observe.

However, I have also observed that the folk who wouldn't join anyway are the most vociferous against joining when this question comes up. That also says something...........

Well said, and Here's something to start us off on the right track (may take a while on 56k, make sure you have sound)

Not sure if that's aimed at me (I started this topic) or the other topic's starter. I only started this thread cos he asked me to! Honest!

The fact that I half agree with him has nothing to do with it :)

However, I tend to agree with oioi. This 'debate' is dissolving into petty squabbles that aren't part of the original discussion. Also, as he says, not many people have voted, and those that have appear to be split down the middle. Let's leave things as they are for now, and move on.

As the starter of this thread (and the vote), I can close it. Should I?

Shall we have a vote as to whether I should close this vote? :D

I voted no too.   I want as wide a  customer base as possible, simple as that.

I know from my own experience that membership has it's rewards.   Anyone who can't see that probably doesn't see the wider picture.   That's their problem, but they're still welcome in the forum!   We are a club, socially, as well as everything else, and remaining a non member is a personal choice, and trying to restrict them in order to compel them to join will probably just have the opposite effect.   I'm sure when they realise we are an open, friendly, easy going bunch, they'll want to be part of it anyway.

Topic starter, as opposed to thread starter. Sorry. I normally make my self abundantly clear......

Yup. It's going nowhere.......

Anyone think this thread should stay open? I'll close it at 11:00 am GMT unless there are any pervasive arguments to the contrary.
