Mike Posted February 16, 2004 Posted February 16, 2004 If your going to introduce online payments of membership, how about a website only membership? To help pay for running costs of the website. But the member would not recieve magazine etc? mike
Martin Keene Posted February 16, 2004 Posted February 16, 2004 There goes the 'on-topicness' of this thread... 4 pages and still on topic... thats got to be some kind of record hasn't it???
moomin Posted February 16, 2004 Posted February 16, 2004 FWIW, I vote no. This is all sounding a bit too "fatchat" for my liking If someone really wants to advertise something, they'll just whack it in one of the chat sections of the forum anyway - job done. I would want a wide audience for anything I advertised, and as had been said, it would likely be advertised elsewhere anyway. And I for one, like many others I suspect, used the boardroom a bit before I got my car, and before I joined up... try before you buy if you like. I guess if it really is an issue (and on grand scale of things, it isn't), then just make ads members only for a period first. Lets not get all cliquey, it just turns people off, and we'll all grow crusty and get up our own s like some other forums. 2p. next! moomin
v7slr Posted February 16, 2004 Posted February 16, 2004 How'd you get the little lightbulb showing you're on line? I like that.
adhawkins Posted February 16, 2004 Author Posted February 16, 2004 How'd you get the little lightbulb showing you're on line? I like that. It's automatic I think... It's on for everyone's posts that are online... Andy
v7slr Posted February 16, 2004 Posted February 16, 2004 Not on mine. I'm on now and the bulb above my previous posts is out. Can't even say the lights on, no-one's home. In fact, I'm home but the lights off.
adhawkins Posted February 16, 2004 Author Posted February 16, 2004 When you logged in, did you select the option to stop people seeing that you were logged in? Try logging out, then logging in again. Can't remember exactly what the option is, something to do with staying anonymous or hidden I think. Andy
Luke Algar Posted February 16, 2004 Posted February 16, 2004 I think that allowing non members to be able to buy things after a limited amount of time, is a good idea. However what i can't understand is why some people don't bother paying any membership fees at all, its not like its a huge amount of money, and thats coming from a student
v7slr Posted February 16, 2004 Posted February 16, 2004 Yippee. I'm lit. Thanks. Luke, look at it in the context of isolation and I'd agree with you, however many people are members of more than one forum. I can't afford them all.
stu999 Posted February 16, 2004 Posted February 16, 2004 I guess your membership is in the post Luke? ('Student type' and Dutton owning excuses are not acceptable... )
Luke Algar Posted February 16, 2004 Posted February 16, 2004 Already am a member, just under my dads number, but yes i have already received my card and just because i have a dutton doesn't mean i don't like Westfields, in fact i quite fancy that Megabusa sat in dads garage
JonnyBoy Posted February 16, 2004 Posted February 16, 2004 and just because i have a dutton you poor poor boy I can't afford them all then sell some toys...no.. that doesnt work does it
Tony B Posted February 17, 2004 Posted February 17, 2004 As another Non Member (voting should have been restricted to Members only ) I voted no.. Some of you guys make me Giggle... Youd rather cut your noses off to spite your face than sell your spare bits to a non member, when are you beurocrats going to come into the real world..... You have to bear in mind that you probably stand more chance selling the bits to non members who are thinking about or during the process of building a car... There are plenty of other forums out there that allow you to log in (no fee just sign up with username and password) and allow you to buy and sell freely... Find It has a Kit Car section for parts which is free... This has to be the only Anally Retentive Forum that Ive been on that insists constantly that posters sign up and pay for the privelage of certain services... I agree that certain privelages should be given to paid up members but to drill down to the capabilities to post on certain forums is down right ridiculous... Privelages such as advanced warning of track day signup, track day price reduction, Tat, a pretty magazine every month...
