adhawkins Posted February 15, 2004 Posted February 15, 2004 Hi all, It's been suggested that the adverts sections should be completely unavailable to non-members (to stop non-members beating members to buying well priced items for example). What do you think? Please, members only votes if you don't mind. Thanks. Andy
S8ight Posted February 15, 2004 Posted February 15, 2004 ooooh, six votes so far and no ones comented after theyve voted. how about a 'yes, but not bothered if it doesnt happen' option ?
adhawkins Posted February 15, 2004 Author Posted February 15, 2004 I can't change the options now. However, feel free to vote yes, but comment that you're not overly bothered. Andy
timd Posted February 15, 2004 Posted February 15, 2004 Looks like I'm the only "no" vote so far.. IMHO restricting the site anymore will reduce it's audience and therefore effectiveness/usefulness. That said, it'd be nice to think that people would want to pay up and support a service that they use frequently - but we've had that argument already!!
mb893 Posted February 15, 2004 Posted February 15, 2004 Nope.... I'm a member and would like to sell anything to anybody John
Mark Stanton Posted February 15, 2004 Posted February 15, 2004 Tim I don't think Mud is calling for a restriction of the site and to be honest, that wouldn't benefit anyone But the implementation and addition of "Members Only" pages including transfer of parts for sale Think of it this way - A non WSCC member can have full access to all the bargains saving them far more than the cost of membership to the WSCC - who are providing a free internet service not just for members sales but also for non-members purchases Some folks may have saved hundreds by using the service and yet have no intention of joining Is it tooooooo much to ask
S8ight Posted February 15, 2004 Posted February 15, 2004 Nope.... I'm a member and would like to sell anything to anybody John want to flog one of your kidneys ?
mb893 Posted February 15, 2004 Posted February 15, 2004 £40032 Billion, the right to graze my cattle on your lawn and first dibs of all your Easter eggs and it's yours Greed is........ over rated? John
JonnyBoy Posted February 15, 2004 Posted February 15, 2004 what about a time delay for non members... i.e they can see the for sale pages.. but only a few days after the initial posting! that way members get first dibs.. if they are too slow then they clearly aren't wasting enough work hours looking at the site and subsequently have their memberships revoked
timd Posted February 15, 2004 Posted February 15, 2004 TimI don't think Mud is calling for a restriction of the site and to be honest, that wouldn't benefit anyone But the implementation and addition of "Members Only" pages including transfer of parts for sale Think of it this way - A non WSCC member can have full access to all the bargains saving them far more than the cost of membership to the WSCC - who are providing a free internet service not just for members sales but also for non-members purchases Some folks may have saved hundreds by using the service and yet have no intention of joining Is it tooooooo much to ask Yeap, I agree entirely hence saying that it'd be nice to think that those folk who save money and/or gain knowledge from the site would want to support it. My point was that the kind of pikey hole that won't pay up to support the site may well not bother to use it at all if they can't get the benefit of cheap parts for sale. If that money-grabbing cheapskate happens to be the only person with the knowledge to help somebody else out of a pickle then the site/community as a whole could lose out.
Mike H Posted February 15, 2004 Posted February 15, 2004 No way - I pay my membership so that if I wanted I could advertise parts for sale on here knowing they reach a very wide audience, not just WSCC members. However, I do like JonnyBoy's idea, it's a bit like Loot.com. Members only for the first X days, then anyone can view ads. Mike
steve_m Posted February 15, 2004 Posted February 15, 2004 I think a time delay is an excellent idea as Jonny suggested ! Only members can see items within the first, say, 24 hours, then it's open for all. Would mean the Ikonboard software would have to support it.
Mark Stanton Posted February 15, 2004 Posted February 15, 2004 If that money-grabbing cheapskate happens to be the only person with the knowledge to help somebody else out of a pickle then the site/community as a whole could lose out. Good point Tim Perhaps it needs some trawling through the boardroom sometime to have a look and see exactly how much information and helpful technical is freely given by the same tight 's that are "all take and no give" My initial feeling would be that very little is offered and that most of the helpful and constructive info is offered by proper members although I don't think it would never be a closed shop with regard to all other forums that would never be of benefit All advice and assistance is most welcome on those cold nights spent building in your garage whoever and wherever you may be
7SE Posted February 15, 2004 Posted February 15, 2004 Leaving aside all other arguments and issues, I would have thought that anyone selling anything would want to reach the largest possible market. How about people (who care) offering items at member and non-member prices?
