New to this game and have a brilliant project to undertake. 

 

A very kind and awesome uncle has let me have his 1988 Westfield to take on as a project. 

 

It's been garaged all of its life and I've had to build a carport to keep it under. (wife has the garage as a gym 😩

 

Anyhoo the car hasnt been on the road for at least 10y so I'm asking you kind people, where do I start before I attempt to fire it up.

 

Its a 1700 xflow with twin 40 dcoe's. 

 

Does it all need draining down, cleaning out of old fluids etc..... 

 

Advice would be welcome 😁

Firstly welcome that’s a great way into westy ownership and a way of keeping memories.

yes I’d replace all fluids as a matter of course, rubber pipes and rubber fuel lines as well. Also check the dates on the tyres as they may look okay but if they’re really old will be hard as rock.

Welcome, look forward to seeing the pics and seeing you get it on the road to enjoy. I started fixing my Dads one, and then ended up getting my own one :)

Welcome, a lovely. classic looking Westfield!

 

As Gary said, I'd start with all fluids and change the fuel hoses to modern ethanol safe types, radiator hoses don't always degrade so much, but check them over. You may also need to get a couple of carb rebuild kits and give them a service, but I'd get it running first.

Burton's are an excellent supplier for general "classic" Ford parts, Eurocarb do all the service parts and kits etc for the Webers. Car Builder Solutions are very good for a whole range of kit parts, spares etc.

Yes a lovely classic westy, she looks lovely. Also if you put your general location there may be folk not to far away that can help out , if you can meet up with for inspiration. We lurk in all corners of the Uk so bound to be someone not to far away

Not sure where you're based, but Alan at Carbcare (Lichfield based but do a postal service) is a great guy if you need the carbs servicing. Sitting that long, you might find the seals are iffy, the jets could be blocked and sometimes the floats go porous.
