'Chips' anyone?

What can you tell me about the use of chips in an engine management system.

I have got an Audi 1.9 TDi 130 [2002 model] and have seen chips advertised that can up the output considerably.

Anybody used one, or got any advice on getting one fitted.

Cheers.

Richard.

Richard,

I've got a '02 Golf TDI 130, so pretty much the same car. I started off with a tuning box, brought power up to 172bhp and 300lb/ft of torque, a nice improvement for EUR580. After this decided I wanted to try a chip, went with a Revo remap, all done via the OBD diagnostics port in 15mins, £499+vat, dyno run show 176bhp and 316lb/ft, but a much smoother drive, pushed up to the redline much quicker.

If you're looking at a chip I'd look at Revo, AmD, or Jabbasport. There are other options like Upsolute and Superchips, but personally I'd stick to the first 3.

If you're interested in a tuning box, I've got one for sale, EUR400, fits in 10min, and is easily removed for servicing etc.

Most chip/remap's will give between 170-180bhp for the PD130 engine without issue.

Checkout http://www.uk-mkivs.net the Tuning Forum should have loads more info for the PD130 engine.

Hope that helps !

Tom
