Made to measure boot bag, door bag, and bulkhead bags

Hi all

Apart from being a customer I have no connection with Midwater Luggage but wanted to share some ideas of made to measure bags they have produced for me.  Quality is good, the bags are not posh, but practical and well made, price is great for a made to measure service.

https://www.midwater.co.uk/

I originally bought a bag to fit snugly in the boot.  It is padded to give a little protection and fits great.  Means you can pack the bag and know its all going to fit in the car!

I was then looking at how best to store my doors, being limited for space hanging seemed the best option so I had another bag made, again padded for protection, The bag holds the doors side by side, plus there is a divider between them.  Probably not the best design for transporting the doors, but it works well for storing them at home.  Midwater specialise in making bags for fishing so the doors can be put away wet and the bag should wick the water away (not tried this yet).

Whilst they were making the bag for the doors, I also got them to make a couple of bulkhead bags, to place behind the seats.  Being made to measure they are the right size for where I have the seats.  These ones aren't padded as I didn't think it was necessary.  I'm not sure when i'll use these but if I ever take the car on holiday they would be great.  The bags are similar to this one on ebay - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/180701876004 - but made to my measurements and for less than 1/6th of the price!

The company has struggled over the last year, much of its business was travel bags, which collapsed with covid. But they are now getting back on track. Hence, whilst being honest their turnaround build time was a little slow, I was happy to support a home grown business.

Rob

I shall have to keep these guys in mind, as I'm aiming to use the sidepods and rear clip space of my XI for travel storage and nothing off the shelf will come close to making efficient use of the space.

Hi,

Thanks for posting.

These look great to me.

How much was the door bag?

Thanks,

W

I’ve been looking for a bag to fit in the boot. Was it specially made? Nothing on their website. Mines a wide body but with the long range fuel tank so boot liner has a step in it.

It was around £30 plus postage. I gave them the measurements of the door and they made the bag to fit.

This was quoted for without the divider, which they added later. The divider is simply padded material so the two doors are kept separate.

It's a good fit, and absolutely fine for my needs.  Ideally a touch smaller may be better and the zip opens at the top and part way down each side so you drop the doors on. May be better to fully open at the sides and then you could lay the doors in and zip it up.

Yes, all my bags were specially made.  For the boot bag I gave the required outside dimensions and they made it spot on to fit.  I added a thin hardboard base to the bag just to give it structure when it's not in situ.

Drop them a note on the contact page, I'm sure they can do a bag with a step in it, but you may wish to draw them a diagram so they are clear.

My boot bag took two attempts, I wasn't that clear on my initial instructions and the opening was made on the side not the top. But I wanted to be able to open it whilst it's on the car. They helpfully redid it.
