Great news! You won't regret it!

Just don't buy the first one you see. Take a look a plenty as Covid 19 restrictions fall away etc.

I didn’t buy the first one I saw. I bought the first one I didn’t see!

I happened to mention to a friend living in Italy that I fancied a 7 type car and he said/admitted he had one in storage in the UK that he’d not used for a decade. So I agreed to buy it there and then, sight unseen.

It so transpired it was lovely original SEiGHT from 1993, which after some modest recommissioning has proved to be awesome.

But I accept that seeing a car for real, prior to purchase, is the more sensible option.

(As a quick aside, last week I bought another car, sight unseen, as a partner for the Westy. It’s a Maserati GranSport - the only UK one ordered in dark green. As a one-off, in the same colour as my SEIGHT, I couldn’t resist. So far, a week into ownership, it appears I’ve got lucky once again. But time will tell...

So the below is an an option. Would need an engine

But would it make a terrible road car?

It doesn't mention if it's registered. I'd guess it isn't so you'll need to put it through IVA to get it on the road etc. The rewire, may be only for track and hence may not have wires in the loom for road use, lamps etc.

build it from scratch if you really want to get your hands dirty and want to have the experience of that.

if you just want to get your hands a bit dirty and tinker then buy one built because once you see someone else's shiny bits (ooooerr) you soon be taking it apart to upgrade, but you wont have the hassle of IVA

I loved building mine and would do it again but the cost really puts me off vs just changing a bit on mine because I can.

That car has been in the UK hillclimb scene for a long time; I think it was originally owned by Will Hall (Now drives a Force single seater in the British Hillclimb Championship, coming in the Top 10 for the last 5+ years), then it was owned by the Dunbar's (a Father-Daughter team, Andy has since driven a few single seaters, and Debbie now holds multiple Women's Hill records driving her Fiancé's (Alex Summers, 2015 British Champion) single seater.

It's got some strong history, and it comes with a good amount of kit for a Vauxhall Redtop, so if you want to go down that route, you are pretty well set!

Things you'll have to think about though, the fuel tank will be tiny, the dry-sump is probably overkill for a street car, suspension might be a bit stiff, and the diff ratio is a little on the short side, and as @Ian Kinder (Bagpuss) - Joint Peak District AOsays, it has been re-wired for the hills, so there will be no road necessities, so you may have to re-wire it once more.

Looks like it may have no handbrake, either, so is probably using race callipers all round, along with a twin master cylinder/balance bar braking system.

Making a road car of it, excluding engine and gearbox, could end up costing thousands, but, if you weren't careful, it could also destroy any historic value it has due to it's history.

There's certainly been some money and attention to detail spent on it!

So that's an idea out. I did see a mx5 for sale locally for 500 quid lol 😂

I’d take a guess that was probably a forty/fifty grand plus car when it was all together. It’s just very, very, very difficult to sell for what it’s worth in parts, broken up.

As it is, you could probably buy what’s left, and in the right (motorsport/trackday builders) marketplace, make a few thousand on it. When you start trying to rebuild cars like that, it can get scarily expensive, and/or complicated, fast, as they’re so damned specialised in how they’re built.

The right car for you will come up, it’s just so hard to be patient when you’re excited to crack on with getting something.

That’s a pre-lit by the look of body and front wishbones. So it’s a narrow live axle.

Vehicle check says 1700cc so been upgraded from a crossflow I’d guess but not notified to dvla?

Okay so another to steer clear of. I msged him and asked he asked me if I knew how to tell. Implying he didn't know much about the car.

Obviously I clearly didn't as I asked 😳
