I had s similar "dilemma", as id set my heart on a build once retired.

Then a wise old man said to me, "if you buy one you can put petrol in and begin enjoying it"

I went to the factory, had a test drive then bought their demo car (which just happened to be for sale)...

I've never looked back.  There's plenty time for tinkering, servicing and upgrading but getting out on the road is where its at for me.....

I'm glad you bought 'my Demo car' before I bought it, as I enjoyed my build! 😎

I’ve loved building mine - then also loved driving it - then loved replacing and upgrading nearly all of it!

Basically - I just love it 😍😍😍 but don’t tell the wife!

My story if it helps, wanted a 'kit car' on a budget i.e Robin Hood etc, just something to replace a motorbike, and didn't really like what I saw. Then decided to go with an accident damaged Westfield, however spoke to some local guys at a car meet, and also joined this wonderful forum and threw it out there just like your post. So your on the right track by being here!

Great advise made me think twice about a damaged one, even more so because the seller is a bit shady as well! So scrap striping and rebuilding.

I would consider building one from scratch, however time is just against me and my concern is that it would go on the back burner when life takes over, so I ended up lifting my budget and ended up with a great 2001 SEiW 2.0 Blacktop.

I have carried out some upgrades but to be honest never really committed as I should, however up to the present day, I took the discussion to sell it last August, realised straight away I had made a mistake when it drove away, by pure chance it appeared on Facebook in a post in January from a guy who had traded it against another motor, but it appeared to have engine issues. I messaged him and told him its history, anyway, forward to this month, I contacted the guy to see if he had fixed and he hadn't, so deal done bought it back! Now with a revived passion for it Im steaming ahead with sorting it out properly this time.

Moral?? Take your time, choose wisely, there are loads of great cars out there, or if you decide to build use the forum for help, advise and motivation if needed.

Agreed - I never drive without a helmet, not even for two minutes to the shops or on boiling hot sunny days.

Bluetooth comms in my helmets 👍

(edit - but it’s your car to buy, so if you want a screen, you get a screen!)

:ww:  @PcoOnce you've seen the benefits of this great club and you've joined, you'll be able to place an advert in the Wanted section. There's been a few nice cars for sale recently at good prices. Clearly Covid 19 is having an impact on all of lives in lots of different ways, hence hard to say how it's impacted Westfields for sale etc. Please ensure your wanted ad includes price range, your location and the key features you're after.

Once lock-down is over, I'd suggest getting along to your local meet too as you'll see plenty of different examples to help you decide what you want etc.

Good luck in your search.

Ian

you be glad to know i joined. Now just to find a decent car.  Looking at the kits brochure the donor kits leave lots of old knackered stuff to be sourced from a donor car. Or you have to do a mx5 and get the top up kit, then fit it with the knackered stuff or spend alot of time cleaning the knackered stuff to make it good stuff...  This then leaves you an bog standard car.. + knackered bits.

Beginning to think I just want to buy a car to drive  🙃
