Old 35mm Slide & Negative Scanning

Recommended Posts

Posted

I bought a 35mm Slide and Negative Scanner from good old Lidl for 25 quid and started to digitise my 40+ year old slide collection and I thought I would share some some of my motoring themed photos with you. First some rally cars which should be of interest to @OldStager and @Glen_I and others of course. I will try to add as much detail as possible.

Thanks, @djm they are great, I wonder how many of the cars still exist ?, so coincidental you posted this as I gave my sister some old 60's negatives to try and get them converted to either digital, or just get them print out on photo paper - But I don't think she has had joy in getting them done, is this Lidl scanner a new stock item as I haven't seen them in my local store recently?.

My stuff is all black and white, and I have about 40 negs, some of which I would keep and some I wouldn't, it's so hard trying to make out faces on negs, I have no clue which ones I want.

2 yrs before I was born😜

That 1st shot, Mk1 with plenty off opposite lock💪

They don't run the Imber Rally anymore on Salisbury Plain do they, it used to run through the military training village?

The days when spectators can stand where they wanted to!

Love it.....

Sadly, the Group B era, (still my favourite, which I'm always somewhat guilty about), put paid to that when spectators were used as high speed crash barriers.

@OldStager as you know with Aldi and Lidl you have to be there at the the right time, I just looked at my receipt and I bought it 31/01/21 but they usually come around about every 6 months. The main reason for buying buying mine was because our honeymoon photos were on slides but that's another story!

Yes, I know exactly what you mean, I did a google search and the first post I saw was back in 2011 for the Lidl item, I suppose there are others out there. This for me however would be the only use it would get, as a family member passed on some old negs of my parents wedding and other similar ones, there is one of me ( I think it is ?) on my dads knee as a 6 month old. I don't have many pics of him as he sadly died when I was 4 - thanks for that Cancer...

I'm surrounded by children... :o

OldStager, have a Google for negative and 35mm slide scanning. There are plenty of paid for services that will do it as well as plenty of gadgets to buy for a DIY solution.

I love the authentic colour of each pic, no photoshop or auto edit to take care off it all afterwards.

I tried having a dabble at photography and have a DSLR but I was surprised how many people (who clearly know what they're doing) would rather have a SLR with film still, but I do understand why.

And don't worry all, I may be a little younger but I am a 'Grumpy old man' according to my kids it seems at the moment......🤔

Staying on the Mk 1 Ford Escort theme here is is a photo of the two loves of my life taken in 1978 on Port Issac beach on our honeymoon in Cornwall. The eagle eyed of you will know that it is Port Wenn in Doc Martin and directly above my Mexico you can see Doc Martin's Surgery! I no longer have the Mexico unfortunately it had to go for our house deposit which was rather large as the mortgage rate was 15% in 1980 when we entered the housing market. Kids don't know anything about starting out these days there was no bank of Mum & Dad for us! Anyway the good news is my lovely wife is still with me.

Below my Mexico are some photos of a 1934 Singer 9 Le Man that I had stored in a garage in my Father's orchard which I was restoring but unfortunately that also fell foul of the house deposit contribution.

You know I often wish I still had my Mexico but ironically out of the Singer and the Mexico the Mexico is more valuable! Strange world!
