oh and another one, if I get a double glazing company really insistent at quoting me I wait till they have said their bit and when asked where I live, tell them, Van 6 , New Quay caravan Park Cornwall.

How long ago was this Paul, wonder if they have changed it now?. Also then, given what the 2011 form asked how did 2021 compare?.

Ooops sorry only just seen this.

It was in the post when we got back in the country last thursday the 4th, so can only guess it was in the previous couple of weeks.

No worries, from speaking with friends and neighbours it seems they also only had a covering letter and a small info mag and requested them to fill it in online. They must have dropped the option of including a form early on in the posting of said letter.

Yup, though the info does also give you a couple of ways, phone number included, to request a paper form if you need one.

Worth noting, for those with relatives unable to do the electronic form, you can fill it in on their behalf, the provision is built in there, for a third party to add a properties residents info.

On the cold calling, my board son Answered a call and they asked if that was Mr Turner, he replied truthfully that it was and then kept him selve amused for ages. Eventually when he'd led them a merry chased he told them he was not the home owner so could not take up there offer.

I don't think they were ammused.

Should be quite a challenge for my father who, at 92 tomorrow, does not own a PC or a smart-phone. Not sure what he's supposed to do if there is no paper form.

There is a phone number to call..

LOL, Something similar to that was when a kitchen company rang, he made one fatal error whilst starting the conversation, anyway after telling me all his jobs come highly recommended and has lots of happy clients, told me the price lists and how his 'boys' do a great neat job - I kept asking questions throughout this call and after 15 mins or so asked if he could come round and quote me.

I said he can't no, this house is rented ( its not but he didn't know that) his mistake was he should have asked the question instead of wasting 15 mins of chat.

Most cold callers now open with the rented question.

Tell the cold callers that they can come round but not this week as you're going to be in the bankruptcy court for a couple of days. Variations on this theme to suit. Me? I just hang up if I have even picked up the phone in the first place. I kid myself that an answered number will only get logged as 'real' and will attract yet more calls.

Since I got this anti cold caller phone I have had only one rather persistent call in 6 years. My phone does not ring unless they follow the message they are given when they ring me. Or in other words if you are not in my white listed phonebook, my phone will not ring. Once added to the white list it will. This does catch out the odd genuine caller, but is no issue now.

Because we have calls from the medical people from time to time we cannot exclude withheld numbers unfortunately. In fact it's the credible but unrecognised ones I tend to ignore because we have so few calls anyway that we know the numbers by sight usually. I did fall for a number that just might have been genuine recently - it was some thickly accented female with a well practised spiel that received my rudeness. There is the odd relative that I'd like to ignore... :getmecoat:

Yeah it was medical ones that were caught out before, my local GP's had an exchange system that gave a witheld number, since then they have now changed to a centrally based exchange which now gives an ID number, once added my phone now rings. That has been the only organisation that I had an issue with to start with.

For the census I will always be truthful and over the years the questions have got more "wide" than they were. The gender one is insane to most people and having several Gay friends of both sexes they are as bemused by some of the names people identify, as none gays are.

I get that we are changing many things but realistically whatever you call yourself is irrelevant to medical needs or if your bins get emptied, but this is the brave new world we live in.

However for amusement my wife and I both fill in surveys with complete and utter tosh on them to ty to confuse their algorithms and yes will happily keep some callers on the line for a long time.

The last was when they were doing the "have you had food poisoning when aboard. 20 mins answering questions and describing in detail my movements etc, which you could tell they were rubbing their hands at and when I finally told them it was all made up and they were the lowest of the low to encourage people to commit fraud, which is what they were doing by encouraging you to exaggerate the claim, they were less than pleased and quite abusive, which was nice
