Richard (OldStager)
I was wondering if the jobs we do ( or did) affect Westfield ownership. I am not talking about the financial aspect for the ability to satisfy upgraditus . More on what the occupation was (is) and if it helps in either the mechanical, electrical or perhaps its nothing other than the driving experience. For me, I was an electrician and later in life turned to fire and security systems, the electrical knowledge is an obvious advantage with the cars, but also the ability to fault find in a logical order when on a call out, comes in handy when that brake light fails. In terms of the mechanical side I am self taught, from push bikes to motorbikes then cars. Just wondered if anyone is the same?. Richard. Kit Car Electronics
I develop engine control systems for a fairly well known Essex car company, so my hobby overlaps with my work (or is it the other way around, I'm never sure)...
Rory's Dad
I am an architect. It means that I think I know everything whereas a Westfield proves I know nothing!!

GaryD1971
I spent 20 years as an engineer/fabricator/welder/General dogsbody which have me loads of experience with fixing and building things which has proved really handy for the westy. I then changed careers in 2008 to the fire brigade which gave me lots of experience on how to put my car out if it ever catches fire. I still work for the fire service, but in a different area: fire protection. Don't know how that will help me now though... 🤔

When Halon got banned I had loads of them as garage extinguishers, replaced by AFFF.

At least I know where to look if I need another welder locally!!
iowlee
Well, I was a Banker for 13 years, then decided to go self employed and bought a hotel 18 years ago. Lets just say its been interesting, especially the last year!!! Unfortunately my time to enjoy the Westfield, as well as other toys seems to have got less and less each year, I thought the plan was to get more me time? Oh well, one day hopefully. Nemesis
I Grew up (allegedly) as a very skint yoof..... I learned how to keep a Yamaha FS1E going with a hammer, single screw driver, a plug spanner and a pair of pliers.... then I served as a Royal Navy Medic on Submarines where they taught you all about the mechanical stuff that makes a complex thing like a sub work, the Royal Navy adopt a simple concept with tuition.... "it goes up and down or round and round", it compounded my simplistic approach to fixing things, ie. get a bigger hammer. For the past 21 years I've been doing a strange thing called Health Physics, it's taught me naff all about mechanical stuff but has funded the addiction to the lunacy that is a V8..... Now all I've got to do is install my new engine and chassis wiring loom and then maybe this year have some fun again.
Glen_I
17yrs in the workshop as a mechanic/technician, I done my apprenticeship with Mercedes on commercials, then moved to Vauxhall, Peugeot and brief stint with Alfa Romeo before getting so hacked off with dealership politics that I took a different approach within the motor trade and started work as a Automotive Technical Author compiling repair instructions for various subjects and have been doing this for past 13 yrs but as with most things this isn't the same job I started (more down to who owns the company and how its run now). I am now waiting for redundancy and then having a serious rethink, I am a hands on practical person, sat in front off a PC isn't enjoyable anymore, but having said that it's then more enjoyable to go and play with the Westfield or my Defender as opposed to fixing cars all day and then coming home to do it.....all swings and roundabouts!! TAFKARM
Sold fuel to business jet operators. Now do nothing. It doesn’t help with Westfield ownership.
Steve (sdh2903)
Aircraft maint engineer. Started out at the former British aerospace Woodford constructing regional jets and then onto (doomed) nimrod refits. Also managed to grab a few days as an apprentice with the retired old boys on the vulcan that resides there Moved into heavy base maint about 17 years ago and gained my licences, moved out on the line a few years after where I've been ever since. I've been incredibly lucky with some of the opportunities to travel that have arisen and still love the job, despite the current insecurities that are around the whole industry for obvious reasons.
Mole
Mechanical engineering.. but started building two stroke engines and motocross bikes from a young age, more two strokes working with Yamaha Japan Outboards as my first job, including working with one of the guys responsible for designing the Duratec... Since then running manufacturing and operations in various factories around the world.. Enjoy driving the Westy rather than building from scratch but enjoy making it reliable ready for the track.. I don't have many extinguishers, but I've got a full set of old fire kit including 2 helmets! 😆 1 hour ago, Mole said: You can prevent it from catching fire now..
