My first car was a 1947 Series M Morris Ten. It had single dip headlights with a permanent high beam on the nearside and a mechanically operated tilting reflector on the offside. On 'dip' only the offside light was ON with a tilted reflector to aim the beam downwards. On main beam that reflector flipped up to a forward facing setting and the nearside light came on. All fine except that the bulbs were 35 watts in tarnished reflectors and the reflector required a hefty thump on the headlamp to make it work. I left it on main beam but such was sheer power of the lights that no oncoming cars drivers survived to complain! :rolleyes:
