Mark Stanton
Two weeks ............ too long 😉
AndrewBClarke
1 week is enough. If booking a hotel they can get ferry price cheaper than you as they get residents rates so ask if it can be added to your reservation. Plenty to do but only small island so will only take a week. Hotel Belmont in Shanklin was good but depends on what you are looking for and budget!
Mark (smokey mow)
I went for a week a couple of years back and that wasn’t long enough for everything we wanted to do. i’d look at what you want to do and where to go and then work out if a week will be enough. Quinten
We're not big do-ers normally. A day at the pool/beach followed by a day of sight-seeing, etc. But this is not France where the weather is near guaranteed to be good, so I was assuming that we'd have the occasional day at a beach, but spend most of our time there walking the dog with the occasional trip to a city or back to the mainland for a "big city" visit. Stuart
If you like that sort of stuff then make sure you're English Heritage members when you go. Do Stonehenge on the way and Osborne House when you get there and it's paid for. And don't forget to turn your watch back 30 years when you arrive

Anything you want to know just ask. With regards too is 2 weeks right? I've lived her for 40+ years, still not seen everything. Some people say a weekend is enough but I know people that have been holidaying here multiple times a year for 30+ years. I own a hotel (typical bucket and spade hotel on Sandown seafront) if I can help please just ask for any help/advice. I know a lot of different places to stay, depending on what sort of thing you are after. 34 minutes ago, Stuart said: If you like that sort of stuff then make sure you're English Heritage members when you go. It's one of the things I love about the island. 42 minutes ago, Quinten said: We're not big do-ers normally. Ideal place for dog walking, loads of beaches that are dog friendly as well most of the year!!!!! No city's over here to satisfy that one , we do have a couple of towns that the 'locals' use, but just a few mins hovercraft flight or catamaran journey from Southampton/Portsmouth. Sandown Bay apparently has the most number of sunshine hours in the UK? Not sure on that one, but we do have our own little microclimate. 51 minutes ago, Dave (OnliestSmeg) - Manchester AO said: @iowlee Cheers Dave 1 hour ago, AndrewBClarke said: 1 week is enough. Or if you collect Tesco club card points get good deals on Wightlink from Portsmouth or Lymington. If you want a chat I will PM you my number. Quinten
Cheers Lee (and others of course!). With the dog, we normally prefer self-catering caravan hire, or an AirBNB type arrangement. I've only just started to look at things, but don't want to leave it too long for fear of rising prices once the general population realises what Brexit actually means for them (and lets not forget Covid uncertainty, even with vaccines available). Have contact for caravan hire (believe they accept dog) located Thorness Bay Holiday site (near Cowes). hopefully you are correct re post brexit and covid-19 for the uk holiday economy. I suppose we are lucky still being a tier 1. However when all of your customers are tier 3 or 2 , it doesn’t help. not expecting much trade before March. anyway you have my number in pm, more than welcome to call me pretty much any time. SootySport
Isle of White is lovely, I could stay there for two weeks easily if weather is good, been twice before. Someone mentioned Visit Stonehenge😥, not on your Nelly, First went in the ‘60s and it’s good to roam around the stones and take photos. Went again in 2016 with my German cousin and it totally different, it’s like Fort Knox surrounded by fences since English Heritage took over. You’re not allowed within 50 meters of the stones and have to walk only on the circular path around the site. Of course the entrance fee is extortionate for a 5min. walk round the site, its just a money making exercise now for the throngs of foreign tourists, Don’t bother! Dommo
Tend to go every summer and could easily find enough to do to occupy for two weeks I reckon. Always ending finding new things each time! Unfortunately my son loves the awful excuse of a railway there, whereas I prefer the heritage line with the more modern stock 😄

Don't get excited though! The Havenstreet line is very popular. Unfortunately the Falconry Centre there has just had some bad news though as there is confirmed Avian Flu on the Island Now, several Swans in Ryde have died and its been confirmed. So they have had to close as a precaution. As if 2020 couldn't get any worse!!! If ever you come over please say Hi. Lee

He's desperate to catch a glimpse of the new trains (despite unwittingly having been on them before in their former lives). We're going to pop over for a day during the Christmas break so he can see them in the depot. Will refrain from saying Hello just yet but will be more sociable post COVID 😄 Usually stay just outside of Lake so pretty local
DamperMan
We in normal years have a week and day trips in the winter to the isle. The red funnel ferry starts the holiday off nicely. A week or a lifetime it’s just depends if you are looking to settle and relax or rush about and want to do it all. When he weather is nice it’s just lovely.. I like to have a day break from holiday and the family and do a loop of the island on my bike. We go Fossil hunting at Brook ( I usually fall asleep on the beach) , fish and chips at rainbow in fresh water. I can even recommend and the hospital after having kidney stones and a related infection.
