Andy_R Posted October 24, 2020 Share Posted October 24, 2020 Finally I've got my back-side into gear and got Maverick out of storage so I can work on it during the Winter! Fortunately there is not much to do. Main jobs include a full service, fitting the half hood and replacing the oil catch tank (which is an old metal drinks holder but I have a nice shiny tank in the garage that I purchased on the forum all ready!). The front lights are catching the wings at full lock so I'll probably replace them with a slightly smaller light fitting if I can't adjust them to suit. Other than that it needs good detail (especially the bright work) and then I'll be ready for an MOT in the Spring and a few trips out to the Peaks!!! Only question I have is whether to sell it once the MOT has been completed. I already have a two seater car with a V8 engine (the Cobra) and don't have much storage space for another. However that's a problem for future Andrew ... the Andrew of now has a big grin on his face after spending the morning playing on Maverick 😃 7 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It's mainly the brightwork which requires a good polish ... running with @Julie Hall - Peak District AO and her gleaming Westfield means it's got to be as perfect as possible. Let me know once yours goes to a new owner and I'll give you an idea of where I am with the work. Julie Hall - WSCC AO Representative Posted October 24, 2020 Share Posted October 24, 2020 Andy, An adjustment that you might like to try on your headlights is to put a spacer under them to lift them out of the way of the wing, as shown in the photo below, the brass coloured bit. The hole in the middle will be the size of your securing bolt. Cut a slot in it so that it slides in position past the wires, otherwise you will have to undo all the wiring to the lamp, so it will be C shaped. Ours is made of brass that has been laquered, you could try stainless but mild steel will rust.
