Hi All,

Just seen that Anglia car auctions are selling Chris Smith's original Westfield registration VTL715. I believe from the books that this is where Westfields came from and our humble hobby began.

https://angliacarauctions.co.uk/classic/sat-22nd-sun-23rd-august/1963-westfield-eleven-no-1/

Its estimated £20-25K which is inline with what the newer ones go for without the heritage.

They also have a lovely SE in British racing green up for sale with a fair estimate on it of £5500-6500 if anyone fancies increasing their stable.

Might buy a scratchcard at lunchtime :)

Says 1963??? @Chris Smith might confirm 😁

From the ad:

Chris Smith confirms that VTL 715 is the first car built by him as a Westfield and was completed in his Garage at Westfield House in 1982.

Yes spotted that - the dvla must have assigned the donor age as they often did back then!

Anglia car auctions is just down the road from me. Had a few cars from there in the past, but never one with that pedigree! Most of mine were lucky to make it home...😂

They hold specialist auctions from time to time and I've seen some cracking stuff go through there.

Absolutely @Chris Smith. Bet you had no idea what that first car would lead to when you were building it! Or was it all part of a grand master plan...? 🤔😁 :yellow-westy:

No I had no masterplan just took on anything that came along just trying to make the brand better. Made mistakes but who doesn’t?

never thought the club would be so special

I firmly believe that the only way we learn is by making mistakes. God knows I've made more than a few!

And yes, it is a pretty special club... 😎

VTL didn’t sell

you know you want it back.  full circle. or I'm surprised @Westfield Parts Dept didn't by it back as a piece of company history

Probably the reserve price was too high for what it was.  Sometimes sellers have very optimistic ideas of what their cars are worth, and this really isn't a good time for selling classic cars, although it is not so bad if you are buying.
