GaryD1971
Following on a bit from the stickers thread @TableLeg started a few days ago, what have people used to cover over repairs to holes in their bonnets? I'm gearing up to fill in the hole left from the removal of a particularly grotty home grown air scoop and I know the repair will be visible as I'm not that good at fibreglassing. I was thinking the easiest route would be to cover the repair with a decal/graphic of some kind. Any thoughts or ideas from the great collective? As you can see, the hole is quite large and once repaired, will stand out like a sore thumb!
neptune
How about a large offset viper stripe ?
Geoffrey Carter (Buttercup)
What about seeing if someone has a bonnet.
Nemesis
I wouldn't repair it, I'd 'frame' it and infill with black mesh, think of the cooling advantages. Nem........
Si.Dalziel
Mad Max style supercharger or new bonnet, unless you can do a good repair and paint/wrap the whole thing.
GaryD1971
Thanks all. 1 hour ago, neptune said: How about a large offset viper stripe ? That's number one one my list. It did originally have a green stripe but was not really much to look at. 1 hour ago, Geoffrey Carter (Buttercup) said: What about seeing if someone has a bonnet. Mine is a 1996 kit style which I would imagine would be hard to colour match, but not impossible. Worth asking the question though. 🤔 58 minutes ago, Nemesis said: I wouldn't repair it, I'd 'frame' it and infill with black mesh, think of the cooling advantages. Nem........ That's thinking outside the box. I like that idea too... 51 minutes ago, Si.Dalziel said: Mad Max style supercharger or new bonnet, unless you can do a good repair and paint/wrap the whole thing. Supercharger you say? 🤔 Hadn't thought of that one!

And that's the situation I'd rather not be in. To be fair, your bonnet looks neat and tidy in the last pic.

neptune
How about a large westfield roundall like alot of cars have in place of the spare wheel ? I'm sure it would cover alot of imperfections. Alternatively have you considered having the hole filled professionally? boat repair specialists repair much larger and complicated holes and are able to match colours. Painting to match can be achieved - I've just matched my red 1996 kit bodywork colour and painted a new boot box lid and underside of my swept wings. I know the match isn't perfect but I bet at a glance most people wouldn't spot the difference.

I am going to see if I have a local repair specialist willing to quote as well. Great answers from everyone so far. Loads of ideas to work with. Thanks. neptune
You can get the roundall made to your chosen size on line rather than using Westfield stock sizes if it would work for you.

Didn't know that. Do you happen to know where to point me in the right direction? This might be my new favourite plan...
TableLeg
Gary, Is this any good for you? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Westfield-Bonnet-in-yellow-NOS/184407411043?hash=item2aef89c963:g:KKQAAOSwyG1fOspV
