XTR2Turbo
When we go to Le Mans we stay about an hour south in a lovely French town called Saumur. It has a huge tank museum including a few examples that have been shot at showing the thickness of the armour plating. Well worth a visit if ever in that part of France.
Stu Faulkner
Next stage is to pin wash all the cracks and creases with a mix of 1 part paint of a darker shade to 15 parts white spirits. With a very small pointy brush you just dab the paint into the gaps and the capillary action does the rest. Once dry with a lighter shade you dry brush. Basically dip the brush in paint and then rub nearly all of it off on a paper towel leaving a trace amount. Drag the brush over the raised surfaces to highlight the detail and soften the edges. As per usual my photos are a bit pants but you get the idea.
Stu Faulkner
All the metal and wood parts of the tools have been painted, Nothing special there. Now onto a bit of weathering. To simulate chips and wear I have dabbed a light grey in places with a ripped off bit of sponge. You can also see where I have highlighted the tracks. With a darker grey, German grey in this case and with a tiny brush paint in some chips. I just need to go over the whole tank doing this........
Stu Faulkner
A bit more weathering. And even a bit of mud. Just a few more bits to go.... But pop quiz time again and I'm sure @Chris King - Webmaster and Joint North East AO will get one of these.

Howard
Tiger 1 and T34/76 I had a number of these models back in the 70s with remote control. Sadly, they only seem to do the static models now, in this scale. I think I've seen radio controlled versions in a bigger size and with a bigger price tag too. Mine weren't as well painted as yours though! Thanks for sharing. Edit to add: I regretted later having such enthusiasm for the German tanks, as my dad fought in North Africa in an anti-tank regiment and had been up against Tigers, Panthers, Panzer III and IVs and such like, and it felt like a betrayal. He must have seen some awful stuff but he never really talked about it. Wish I'd asked.

Stu Faulkner
All done. As for the weathering effects they can be done with translucent paint or very watered down but rather that mixing them each time you can buy them ready done. Who would have thought you could buy mud in a pot.
corsechris
You can get smoke in a jar.... ...so I see no reason why you can’t get mud in a pot.
