My first printing attempt

Recommended Posts

Took delivery of an Ender 3 on Friday, assembled and then didn’t get a chance to try it! I had to swap the European plug for an English one, apparently they’re all getting shipped with the wrong one! The spoils of PLA were supposed to be following today, now tomorrow I’ve been informed. Anyway, thought I would give it a bash with the supplied sample plastic. After bed alignment and a sample print I attempted something off the SD supplied, a bit of a blind leap of faith - that took 6hrs to complete.

Quite happy with the result, possibly a bonnet ornament 🤣

looking forward to trying to utilise it with work as well as playtime.

Excellent! Is the object you made a sub-conscious token of your financial situation after buying the Ender 3? :suspect:

A little update, I’m really enjoying the learning experience messing about on tinkercad, I want to move to Fusion 360 but need tutorials to get started. For now, I’ve designed and printed a couple of printer upgrades (it’s the printer law apparently! and now working on parts for work.

Im getting requests for counter screens, and my last versions were a) temporary and b) over engineered/heavy gauge.

I've designed a bracket to accept 25mm upright support legs - pictured, currently working on joiners and spacers.

Happy for any constructive feedback or tips.

Great that the model works and it looks like you have been messing with the parameters. However I would advise you fully understand the science before adding them to the car. You need to have exactly the correct length +\- 5 mm for them to work as intended. The fluting is important too.

Absolutely Paul, I haven't decided on how to move forward with these but I'm enjoying the prototyping and printing and bearing in mind they are pennies to produce compared to £25-£35 'cheap' 'stacks it may be worth knocking up several different options to try out at my next mapping session.

If you tell me your bore and stroke and the Rpm you want the peak torque along with the distance from back of the inlet to the face of the ITBs I can work that out now

that’s just a good starting point though, you need to know what you’re trying to achieve, Real world optimisation still requires rolling road testing and tuning and may need some variance away from the mathematical optimum to create the best overall solution.

Yes absolutely but doing the maths means you get in the ball park

Now you are asking....give me a minute and I'll get right back!

I am totally impressed though and @Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Secretary, this is a slowly slowly one step at a time adventure in 1)understanding the car set up more 2) Tuning/Adjusting it to how I will enjoy it the most!

Thanks for the help....I will probably set up a separate thread to pursue this.

I will redesign the stacks so they can be adjusted in length whilst the car is on the rollers. That way the printed set can be a throw away item after tuning.

Great idea Paul.

Emerald do some adjustable one's for exactly that reason - dyno testing.
